Three other angles of this. Couldn't figure out the camera's settings, so with flash it is.
This Clay figure was done in six parts: head, torso, arms, cup rim, cup base. They were then connected, and the torso hollowed somewhat to prevent cracking when drying. Glazing was done by painting the white and brown glaze first, lacquering the painted parts, and dipping the figure to crimson glazing. The lacquer keeps the glaze from sticking on the surface, and burns off when hardening the glazing.
The white glaze on her face clumped up a little since the glazing melts and turns into glass when in the ceramic oven.

You try making individual fingers on something smaller than 1cm, when there's not that much time to do the whole thing in the first place :b
As for what she's supposed to be doing? ... Don't have a clue, I just went along with it, and that's how it ended up. I think I tried having the arms holding the cup more closely, but it didn't quite work for some reason, I don't really remember the specifics, it was one or two years ago.

Oh right, now I remember, it was supposed to be a candleholder for those little thermal candles, and she'd be warming her hands with the flame.
I just never really need to use them, though... but might be useful for a power outage.

For me it was the opposite, I never really got any chances to do almost anything with clay... though to be honest while in school I didn't really care either, but afterwards I would've liked to do some more... this was on a short course that I got on for free, but it was only for about 4 times, for 2-3 hours each time ^^;
