I hardly have anything to say about the meaning of this piece since I think that everyone should have his own thoughts and interpretations regarding this painting. So, let me hear what you think, I'm most curious. :)
Painted with acrylics, one of the rare pieces I tried to paint without countless layers. The scan's just so-so, can't seem to get the red and the blue tones right.
On another note ...
.. disappearing for about 8 months is a new record for me, I think. I've been terribly busy with work (mostly children's books, I illustrated a whole lot of them during the last few months). Messages keep piling up, countless notes to answer and yet hardly any time to do so.
I'll try to whip up a journal entry in the next few days and hope I can start responding to notes and comments (and emails ... whoops) in June again. Sorry for always disappearing without a word every now and then. :')
Meanwhile, I painted a few more furry related pieces (a great change when you work on so many children's books not involving anthropomorphic characters) and I hope I can at least get around to upload those in the next few weeks.
Thank you for looking!
Original will be for sale at MMC art show.

Oh Pan! It fells good to see that you're doing well. :) I started to worry how you've been, but I was guessing that you must have a terrible busy time the last months. :) For me it was a surprise to see that you'll be attending the Confuzzled, and I do really hope to see you there. :)
For this amazing picture... it triggers two ideas with very different feelings.
The first (and sad one) is... the feeling of release and freedom after ... ... committing suicide. ... I know that's a hard one. >.< But it somehow reminds me of that. I mean... look at it like this: You've had a terrible life, being all alone and havin noone who understands you. Not even your family does. Then it somehow feels good to bring an end to this and letting your own life end in a sunset... somehow might seem wonderful for some people.
The second one is the feeling I share lately. :3 It's the feeling of being so happy that you think you can actually fly, without consuming drugs or stuff like this. :3 It's because some bad time is now behind you and you can start to just dive into this new time of happiness and joy. So for me this picture somehow means both, and none of those. :3 It's the question of how you'd like to live your life. Either you decide to live it in depression and loneliness or fly through it with the joy of being with someone you like soon. :)
In the end it's an impressive piece and I am personally very happy, that you are fine. :D

This image reminded me of the suicide ending to the novel, Brave New World. Not because this image is sad. This image is quite beautiful, but the floating feet was a prominent ending to that book and it was kind of haunting when I read it as a child. The image always stuck with me, just two floating feet slowly spinning.
"Savage!" called the first arrivals, as they alighted from their machine. "Mr. Savage!"
There was no answer.
The door of the lighthouse was ajar. They pushed it open and walked into a shuttered twilight. Through an archway on the further side of the room they could see the bottom of the staircase that led up to the higher floors. Just under the crown of the arch dangled a pair of feet.
"Mr. Savage!"
Slowly, very slowly, like two unhurried compass needles, the feet turned towards the right; north, north-east, east, south-east, south, south-south-west; then paused, and, after a few seconds, turned as unhurriedly back towards the left. South-south-west, south, south-east, east.

Good to see you are still alive!
