MCFC Sketch - Manu Koa & Kalena sketches
manukoa visited the convention again this year and gave me the chance to draw his two lovely birds again. I've been drawing birds a lot lately so I was ready for this. :D Typically these birds are drawn using their feathers as fingers, but I thought it'd be fun to try a pose or two with them using their feet as hands. Good or not? BTW, if you haven't seen the movie "Surf's Up" I heartily recommend it. The scene where Jeff Bridge's character cuts loose on the ukulele is great fun to watch.

Thank you so much for drawing so many wonderful expressive poses! I love all the expressions and the character interactions between Manu and Kalena. I love the mix of "finger-feathers" vs. "using their feet" to communicate and embrace life.

I haven't seen the new Rio sequel but one of the things I really liked about the first movie was the attention paid to making Blue really move like a genuine macaw rather than a guy in a bird costume. I got a big smile seeing some of the recognizable bird behavior and mannerisms replicated in the movie.
