I'll Be Here Waiting For You...
Hannibal, my Grandads old dog.
He was my best friend as a child, my protector, my playmate and my world.
He died when I was a kid, put to sleep in the loving arms of my Grandad.
Stress has been hitting me rather hard, I had a dream that Hannibal was there in full sight, he told me he'd always be waiting for me. He would be there for me, my guardian angel and protector.
I feel Hannibal with me, reminding me that it will all be okay.
My Hannibal, my friend. <3
I miss you. I love you.

I feel the same way about Wish, my greyhound who passed away last month after 8 years with us (she was two when we got her) I still find myself sobbing, seeing her everywhere I go and I hope wherever she is she'll be waiting for us to meet up with her someday. Just as I'm sure you'll see your Hannibal. It's the cruelest form of irony that the ones who dedicate their entire being to being your best friends, your companions, your most loyal company only have 1/10th the lifetime that we do. It's not fair.
All I can hope is that he's up there somewhere, being the Guardian and Gentle Warrior he always was.
Its not fair, he was a beloved family member, and treated as such when he passed away.
(He was paralised from the lower spine down, putting him down was the only way to ease his pain. He was in the arms of my grandad, by the fireplace, he was curled up in a blanket and the vet came to the house... If Hannibal was going to pass on, my Grandad wanted him in the love of his own home.)
I just wish I had time to say goodbye as I wasn't there.

*hugs* Yeah. Wish it was completely unexpected, greyhounds tend to have a shorter lifespan than most dogs because of their size, their hearts can give out. She was bouncy and happy and playing when I got home that afternoon, then she had a tremor and seemed like she was getting better, she passed only a couple hours later. It was just tragic. But she was at home, with all three of her papas and her little brother there loving on her. It was the best we could do.
