As I'm deep in the world of racing, Nikoletta-neechan and Oniichan stand in the doorway of my playroom and scan me. I giggle as my focus isn’t averted, yet my voice begins to stream toward them, “Hey, Oneesan, Oniichan, what do you guys want?” My inquiry bounces toward them as I cross the finish line and park my car on the roadside moments later before I face them. They smile as they walk over and sit down on either side of me.
As warm energy surges through me, I realize that I'm safe in Nikoletta-neechan’s embrace and her voice hits my ears seconds afterward, “Grandmother Alexandria told us that you were having some doubts about Humanity and their Enlightenment. You still have doubts about your safety when it comes to being around them don't you?” She pulls me out to her eyes and examines my confused face; the uncertainty that stains my aura. “You think that they are trouble don't you, Caiden? If you wish, we could convert Humanity to Zentalis now and abolish your fears.”
Brother's chuckle reaches my ears and his voice follows, “Nikoletta, you are following in the High Elder's path. He wanted to force Humanity into Enlightenment, I don't think it's the best idea. We should let the humans decide for themselves.”
Nikoletta holds me close as her eyes bore into Brother, “And look where that's got us, Ycatsaius! The humans haven't attained The Key, they haven't taken care of the world that The Most High entrusted them with. We Zentalis are better stewards of the planet and you know it! I've done the simulations and if we don't do something soon, the Earth will do it herself! The result won't be kind to Humanity.
Zentalis, however, would be able to find solace in the Fleet of Eternal Promise orbiting the planet. We'd return to the planet once she's cleansed herself of the cancer that's infected her. Humanity is a lost cause! They destroy everything in their path! We know history, Ycatsaius. You of ALL people definitely should! All those spiritual journeys you were on, The Most High showed you the past. He showed you everything Humanity has done! He showed you that they haven't learned from their mistakes.
He showed you all those children, had you lead them to good homes. Where do think those kids are now? I'll give you a hint as to where they and their families are.” She aims her finger to the ceiling, “they all now live on the ships in the Fleet of Eternal Promise, waiting to return to Earth after the cleansing and restore the population. The Humanity of this time is done, Ycatsaius. I'm surprised you didn't see it when you were performing those spiritual journeys. Zentalis will be the new Humanity.”
“Nikoletta, I didn't know...but really? Humanity really is a lost cause?
“Nikoletta-neechan, Humanity is still a toddler as a species compared to us and the rest of the universe. They need time to grow. It wouldn’t be right.”
“I know that Caiden, but…” she hugs me firm and rubs my back, “Earth isn't going to give us time. She's going to perform a radical cleansing in four weeks, Caiden! There is NO way you'll be able to get the entire population enlightened by then.”
My eyes find the ground and tears well within them, “So...you're just going to let all of Humanity die then? Why didn't you tell me of this sooner!!! I could have attempted to save some people!”
“You and Obaasan were lost in your family time and enjoyment. We didn't want to upset you as we are doing now. We were just going to transport all of us, our home and our parents’ home to the Imperial Flagship Infinite Sacrifice and watch the Earth from afar as she cleansed herself. All life on the surface that doesn’t adapt to the conditions of Earth during the cleansing, meaning the humans, will die. When Earth returns to normal, we'll reseed the population with Norteran and Zentalis.”
I sniffle and sobs tear through my body seconds later. Before Nikoletta can pull me into a hug, I run from the room. When I enter the living room, I rush toward my Grandmother and begin to bawl once I'm in her lap. She hugs me and attempts to calm me down. As she rubs my back, “What's the matter baby? Calm down, little one.”
“The…the planet is gonna…gonna destroy all Humanity.” I glance up at her from my position in her lap, “Earth’s dying, Obaasan…it’s…it’s going to go through a rapid freeze and slow burn in four weeks! I…I can see it, Obaasan! We…we can’t save the humans…we…we can’t save them!” I begin to bawl as I find solace in her warm embrace. “I…I can’t do anything to save them. I CAN’T DO ANYTHING!”
“Caiden…dear, calm down.” She rises to the floor and places me over her shoulder before she begins to rub my back. “It’s alright, little one.” Her eyes flash red and she smiles down at my fearful form, “Just go to sleep, baby. Everything will be fine when you awake.”
Despite my protests my body soon falls victim to sleepiness and I’m dragged into its depths. My Grandmother sighs as she walks outside and halts in front of her car seconds later. She turns and smiles when Brother, Nikoletta, Mommy, and David stand on the lawn, a white aura hovering behind them.
“Are you ready, Grandmother? Is Caiden alright, did you manage to calm him down?”
“Yes, Ycatsaius, mostly. I just hope this won’t be too traumatizing for the little one.”
“Indeed, prepare for Auric Shadowing!”
My Grandmother smiles at her family and affirms her preparedness before the white aura grows to encompass them all.
……
A subtle whine leaves me as I awake. I sit up and shock envelops me as I scan my surroundings. When my bedroom greets my eyes, I sigh. “Was it a dream?” I hop out of bed and rush toward the window. My heart drops into my stomach at what I see: the planet Earth hanging in the air! I blink twice and a red light sweeps through my eyes. Seconds after blinking again, my vision zooms so I’m able to get a closer look. Tears well in my eyes as a huge hurricane hovers over the United States. “It…it couldn’t be…it…it wasn’t a dream. It…It’s actually happening. It’s begun already! I thought it was going to happen in three more…three….” I fall to my knees as tears overtake me and my vision returns to normal. “All those people…everyone on Earth…all of them…they can’t be…they…they…”
“Caiden…” sails my Grandmother’s soft voice toward my ears. Despite her calling, my emotions are still in full control. I begin to bawl even harder once my legs find my chest. “It’s not fair! All…all those people didn’t have to die! THEY DIDN’T HAFTA DIE!”
As my wails increase, I feel myself being lifted into her arms and hugged before finding myself over her shoulders. “Caiden, it’s alright…” she soothes as she rubs my back, “it couldn’t be avoided. You couldn’t do anything to avert this disaster.”
“Where are we?” I roar as I bury my head closer into the crook of her neck. “I…it all looks the same…and…and…why…why did it have to happen?”
As my query hits her ears, warm loving energy begins to surge through me. When my Grandmother sets me on my feet seconds later, she kneels down to me. “Caiden, we are on the colony flagship Infinite Sacrifice. Our home is right now resting in the city Amelia on said flagship. We will be here until Earth has returned to its normal state, or we might stay and form an entirely new world of our own.”
I sniffle as I walk toward the window and glance out at the raging Earth below us. “Um, when will Earth be back to normal?” I turn and before another step can be recorded, I begin to wobble.
She rushes over to me and lifts me into her arms. “I guess my grandbaby is still trying to get used to the artificial gravity system of Infinite Sacrifice. It took the rest of us two or three hours and that was when we were awake. Since you were sleep for the first couple of hours since you’ve been on the ship, it may take longer. You may waddle a bit more than usual before your body gets used to the gravity. Once it does though, you’ll be fine.”
“Obaasan…” a subtle yawn escapes me as she tucks me back into bed, “Obaasan, when will Earth be back to normal?”
“If you mean when it will be back to its normal state to where she’s habitable with a new tropical environment planet wide? That may take at least one hundred to two hundred and fifty years. We won’t need to worry about that though. While on the Infinite Sacrifice, we have everything that Earth had and more. It will be like we never left…and thus it won’t be much of a shock for when we, or if we return to Earth.”
Once I sit up and face my Grandmother, I cross my arms and pout, “I still don’t believe that this stuff happened, Obaasan.” Tears well in my eyes as I continue to pout at her, “it wasn’t right. We should have saved them! WE SHOULD HAVE SAVED THEM!”
“Caiden…that wouldn’t have been a good idea. They would have destroyed Infinite Sacrifice as well, just as they did Earth. We couldn’t risk it.”
Tears continue to fall at my Grandmother’s words. I just don’t understand how someone, even my own family could just decide to let an entire race of beings that were similar to them just die. No warning of Earth’s impending ice and fire storms, no evacuations…nothing. As I continue to ponder this, emotions flare and I begin to bawl, loud. Straightaway, I feel my Grandmother’s warm embrace and moments later my sadness vanishes. “What was I crying about? What was I upset about again? I…I have no worries, I’m just a kid and Obaasan, Oniichan, Oneesan, Mommy, and David take care of me no matter what.”
“That’s right, Caiden. We will always be here for you. Just rest now, baby, just rest.”
She smiles once sleep takes hold of me and walks to the foot of my bed. Once she makes contact with the rocking chair and begins to rock back and forth, she watches me close before her focus turns to the doorway.
“So,” Brother’s voice echoes as he and Nikoletta walk into my room, followed by Mommy and David, “how did he take it, Grandmother?”
“Yes, how is our little Caiden doing, Alexis?” David inquires as he scans me then faces her, concern etched into his face. “Will he be alright?”
“He’s fine you all, he’s not sick or anything.” she rebuttals as she stands and ushers them all out to the hallway. “Caiden will just need time to adjust, as will we all.”
She turns on her heel and faces my sleeping form, a smile on her face. Once she reaches my bedside, she kisses my forehead, “Caiden, sweetie, Obaasan will always be here and I’ll help to make your adjustment to Infinite Sacrifice a peaceful one.” A blue light begins to burn low around her body seconds later, and she extends her blue aura encased hand to me.
My Grandmother exhales soft and as a mental prayer echoes in her head, she places said hand on my forehead. She smiles as the aura soon wraps around me and shines before it fades seconds later. “There, now my grandbaby should have a peaceful transition to this new life. The only thing I can’t control is the other Norterans that migrated here just hours ago. I just hope nothing goes awry.”
