So, I was balancing my checkbook the other day, and putting all my extra money into my savings account, when low and behold, I wrote down a seven digit number! (That’s including the two digits after the decimal)
It’s true! Somehow, I went from having over $6,000 of debt a year ago, to having over $10,000 of savings today!!!
I seriously can’t believe it! I have money! I actually have freakin’ MONEY!!!
It’s kinda funny, now that I have all this money, I’m faced with the unexpected conundrum of “What now?”
For the last several years, I have had the goal to save up to have $10,000, but now that I have achieved that goal, I’m not sure where to go from here.
Where I stand, I have three options:
1) Put a down payment on a semi truck, and become an independent contractor. My company has lessened the restrictions of the trucks that can be brought in from having to be no more than 3 years old, to only needing to meet California’s emissions standards. That means I can buy a truck as old as 2007, which I can find some for under $40,000!
The only problem is, if I buy a truck, I’ll have to continue this work for about 3 years to pay it off, and be able to start saving again, that is, unless I find a better job, and the thought of driving for this company for another 3 years is kinda sickening. Though if I’m an IC, they should treat me a little better than being a company driver, plus I would have more control and rights.
2) Continue saving money until I have about $30,000, then quit, and go to college full-time to get a degree in something that would get me a job I would prefer, like computer tech or animatronics. (I’ve pretty much accepted that any career in the artist industry, being animator or videogame design, is completely unachievable for me). But to do that I’d need to continue as I am going for another two to three years, which is not a pleasant thought.
3) Quit my job, and use my $10,000 savings to support me in the meantime so I can try restarting with a new path altogether, with a new job. I was thinking if I’d do this, I’d try going to the police academy, which is a good paying job, but I would have to go where they want me for two years, which would most likely be Los Angeles, before I could be transferred to be closer to where my family live. And then when my family move from California, I’d have to re-do the academy in the new state, or stay in CA.
But with as far as I have gone, the thought of going back to ground zero, and starting over… I just REALY hate the idea of going back to nothing again after it took me so long to get where I am.
I’m actually leaning mostly toward option one, because it is looking like I’m gonna be stuck driving truck for a while anyway, and if I buy a truck, it doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll have to continue driving for my current company. In fact, I think it would create more opportunities for me to find a better company to drive for, that will pay me better, and treat me better.
Though I’m definitely not going to jump into anything too fast. Choosing how to invest $10,000 is a HUGE decision, the biggest one I’ve ever made, and I REALLY don’t want to make the wrong choice. I need to do a little research to find what I should look for in a truck, and create a game-plan, and also look into what companies I could drive for.
A 2007 truck will be allowed in California until 2022 before it will need a new engine, which may be about $50,000, but of coarse that is only if I’m still going to be driving truck then, (which I’m gonna be aiming to get my degree and get a better job by then) AND be driving through California.
Anywho, I just wanted to share that with y’all! This job may be incredibly stressful, but at least I am finally starting to move forward for the first time in.. what, ten years?
Hope you are all doing well! And I hope to be able to be online more soon! Wish me luck!
Huh, I should have done a Dragonball Z scouter reference for this. XD
