I begin my latest 'sweeps month' (May, 2014) with another classic 'photo-op' of a well-known celebrity, for 'Throwback Thursday'...
When I used to live in New York (up until 1992), one of the annual events I loved to go to was the "5th Avenue Book Fair" - where several blocks of Fifth Avenue in midtown Manhattan were closed to vehicular traffic, allowing pedestrians to walk all over the street, and for a variety of vendors to sell all sorts of literature. They included publishers, book stores, and other unique concessions. And, many times, authors of specific books would come to NYC to promote their latest titles, and engage in book signings. (The "Miami Book Fair" - which I now frequent in the fall - is the closest thing to that event in the northeastern USA.)
At the 1989 edition of the "5th Avenue Book Fair", I saw legendary chef Julia Child - promoting her latest book "The Way To Cook".
Child is best known, of course, for starring in the long-running PBS series "The French Chef" (among other cooking shows later on, until her passing on August 13, 2004 - just two days short of her birthday). And, to those in the anthropomorphic world, she was best known as the voice of 'Dr. Juliet Bleeb' - a scientist from the Museum of Natural History - in the 1993 animated feature "We're Back: A Dinosaur's Story".
Since I didn't know Ms. Child was going to be at the book fair, and I didn't have enough money on me to buy one of her books (to get autographed by her), the best I could do was take a picture of her with my 35mm camera (as she signed someone else's copy of "The Way To Cook").
"Bon appetit!"
