The Royal Crown is reforged every time there is a new king on the throne, to incorporate symbols of the country and to include the new king’s personal mask design.

They’re a species I call Faceless(es).
All Facelesses wear masks they create themselves, most having one or two. Masks are a personal thing, everyone makes their own from any materials. Children don’t usually have masks, as they are still forging the “right” design.
To be unmasked in public is a great insult and shameful, as it pretty much means that they’re nobody. But to be unmasked by a lover (with permission) means they place absolute trust in them.

(also, that braid is Serena's tail. Faceless tails are like horses, females often getting it decorated than males.)
