Just another mid-project snapshot to give a little window into my process. It's the usual drill here -- blocking in forms, blocking in the background. Trying to stack lights on darks on lights, etc. for good contrast in the composition.
Also desperately trying to do something that isn't red for a change (as you can guess, this can only end in tears...)

Yeah, I wanted him to look chunky (something I'm working at, and definitely still getting a feel for), so I really wanted to evoke the smooshing of his manboobs together as a result of his arms hanging forward between the knees like that. It's definitely possible that I went too far with it, though @_@
Wedge Face™, previously thought to be a cousin to Pyramid Head™, is actually just a lazy way of blocking in the head without actually thinking about canine cranial anatomy in the least ^_^
But it's cute.

It's got more breathing room to it, especially on the figure. The figure also looks about 50lbs lighter here before adding all the fluff. His face is also still cartoonier here (and arguably more expressive). Then there's the obvious color shift.
Maybe it's some combination of those?

I'm no good at expressing these things in a way that doesn't sound like I'm completely faking art-speak, but your points about the face (I like toony!) and the strange claustrophobic feeling on the finished piece stand out and they're probably why I like this one more.
It feels kind of strange being told why you like a piece by the artist themselves. o.o;;

He's just waitin' for his ride -- guess his buddy's truck just came around the bend here ^_^
And thanks. I liked it alright in blue and green, but I also like the sort of electric magenta it wound up in. Sometimes my sketches definitely go through a few color changes along the way ^_^

Oh, I hadn't checked the description on the magenta version...
I dunno, the red tones feel much more appropriate as a building/tree/fur color, but the blue's more laid back. The shading also feels more natural in the red, but I kinda favor the blue/yellow scheme over the red/yellow i think...
