[tut] :: shading tutorial! [info below] ::
yay <3 (this ONLY WORKS IN SAI as far as i know)
Step 1: When you are finished lining and coloring, MERGE YOUR LINE AND YOUR COLOR LAYERS. MERGE ALL OF THOSE BAD BOYS. Also make sure your lines are NOT black, just a little bit lighter. Black is boring (in this aspect) <3
Step 2: (use this pallet http://imgur.com/cTwehQK to help you see what im talking about) Make a new layer as a clipping group above the merged line and color layer. Make it a multiply layer and take your purple to start shading. Do NOT blur anything. Just make it nonblurred shading. Make sure you know where your light source is (in this picture my light source is above the head) in order to shade correctly. When you are absolutely 100% sure finished, adjust the layer to 50 percent and adjust the luminosity to -60 (Ctrl+U is the shortcut for the window i am talking about).
Step 3: Make a new clipping group layer above the shaded one. Get your 500 pixel water brush (its a standard brush in SAI) and shade gently by pressing hard on the dark areas and getting lighter as you get to the lighter areas. It will take some time to master the brush effect and potential. Also adjust this to -60 luminosity and make the layer about 85 percent.
Step 4: Do the same thing as step three, but use yellow (look at my color pallet! <3) and set the layer to luminosity. Press hard in the light areas and fade out to the dark areas. When youre finished, adjust the layer to +60 luminosity and make the layer opacity around 20 percent.
Step 5: Make a new clipping group luminosity layer and use your pen to draw dabs of light where the wet/shiny parts should be, i.e. mouth, teeth, hair. Use a low opacity eraser to fade out any parts you dont want to be strong, like what I did in the hair. Adjust the luminosity to +60 and make the layer opacity around 50 percent.
Step 6: Make a new clipping group overlay layer and use your yellow to fill the layer completely. Adjust the opacity of the layer to around 10-15 percent and do NOT change the luminosity!
Step 7: Make a new clipping group screen layer and use your purple to fill the layer completely. Adjust the opacity of the layer to around 15-20 percent and do NOT change the luminosity!
Step 8: Make a new overlay layer (NOT a clipping group. when you have backgrounds, you need this layer to overlap everything) and dump a bright neon green onto it and use the water brush to make a new color on top of it (its hard to explain so here http://imgur.com/HJ20qXq ). Press Ctrl+U and mess with the hue until you find what you like! Adjust the layer opacity to around 10-20 percent and BAM youre done!
