There was this tree down the road that my husband pointed out to me about 6 months ago. The tree was really a dead trunk with one stubby and mishapened branch, that if you tilted your head and used your imagination, it truly looks like the head of a unicorn. He knew I would appreciate the abstract observation since I had been on such a unicorn kick since we found out we were having a baby girl.
Well, this tree became our family obsession..everytime we would drive by someone would point it out and we even joked about sneaking into the yard the unicorn tree stood and cutting off the branch that so strongly resembled a unicorns head and mounting it on a wall.

Just a couple weeks before delivering my daughter, my son and I were driving by in the evening to discover it was on fire! Apparently, the land owner was tired of this dead tree and decided to burn it down. We didnt shed any tears but we were all pretty upset that our beloved unicorn tree was now ash!
It has been gone now for almost 3 months and I still glance at the remaining charred trunk when I drive by. This painting was a way to kinda pay tribute to the ugly dead tree that brought my family smiles when we past.
