Kellis is Prince of the Forest Climes and a squirrel of well-bred repute. While his family is as cheery as the dappling sun beneath the leaves, Kellis' own heart is lost in itself. The home of the palace within the beams of the forest where he used to take joy has lost its appeal. The greenery no longer speaks to him of vibrancy, and there is even tell that the forest is beginning to wilt. Like the prince's sullen heart, the forest is losing its luster. The prince, it seems, wants no more of secrets layered behind secrets and even less of the gossip within the rustle of the bows. And yet a conspiracy has awoken that he cannot ignore, for it is one that transcends the ancestry of his forest kingdom.
It was a clear and windy night, and he was feeling rebellious. While the trees shook with rage against the windy torrent, Kellis ignored the dangers and pressed onto his goal. Wanting no more of the forest's control, he skipped from branch to branch until he reached the tallest tree in the forest. The trees shook heavily below, bearing their anger at him, but he continued to skitter up to the top of the tree. While the forest shook below him, he looked to the skies, and something extraordinary happened, something big enough to awake the adventure that he was seeking for so long. Kellis watched as a bright star vanished in the sky.
On this same night, someone lurked below, unaware of this omen from the skies. A predator, but not of the usual kind. This orange cat has been rumored to have the power to call the winds, and has been using it to shake the prey of the Forest Climes to the forest floor, where they were preyed upon by the cat's brethren. Kellis suspects that this threat has been prophesied by the stars, but is unaware of his role to play in the events to come. For their hides a secret at the roots of the ancient forest, one that speaks of the ancient lineage of the Forest kingdom, that can stop this new threat.
After several weeks of disappearance from the squirrel-folk by this cat, Kellis is approached by a bird, a sparrow, who tells him of a magic that exists at the roots of the oldest tree. Although Kellis is distrusting of the bird, he is excited at the excuse to seek the adventure he has been craving, and soon embarks the quest with the sparrow. His journey takes him across the tree canopy and to the furthest edges of the forest, where the oldest tree lies. However, what he finds when he reaches the tree is not what he is expecting. Can the magic of the forest once again be awoken and restored, or will the folk of the Forest Climes be left to ruin?
