I agree that every decade or so, you can revamp or update comics because I'm not blind to the fact that the world is constantly changing. What upsets me about the new 52 is that it's a reflection of HOW our world is changing and I don't like it. it's dark, cynical, gratuitously sexual and violent across the spectrum and is pandering to people who will shell out the green for it rather than showing them positive influences that super heroes were created for. don't get me wrong, there's a place for that kinda stuff, but not with our mainstream characters. just my 2 cents.

the "new 52" was the concept of Jim Lee (who gets a step on a lego award) and Geoff johns to relaunch the ENTIRE dc universe by having the flash do some wacky temporal interference thing and changing history. the 52 comes from the countdown 52 series a few years ago so they thought that was the lucky number. they started the relaunch with 52 different titles. the idea was to target a younger audience which was not most of their demographic but they said fuck you to us older people thinking we'd just buy it because it's superman or batman. that wasn't the case. a LOT of people are not happy with this new universe but they power forward with this crap and somehow it keeps going even though they keep canceling books and top creative teams keep leaving.
