An Old World vulture of the African savannahs and deserts, the Lappet-Faced Vulture prefers to scavenge on the largest of carcasses, like that of the African Elephant. They often open up hides for lesser vultures, but sometimes prefer to let other vultures do the same work, waiting on the sidelines until they have their fill. Besides feeding on carrion, they have been known to each young flamingos, impalas, and guineafowl.
