Picking up where I'd left off from my last 'sweeps month' (February, 2014), I continue my current one (May, 2014) with the latest image I had obtained for my GSP - Grey Sketch Pad - which was originally given to me by
Funimal...
For the last few years, the first Saturday of May was officially declared "Free Comic Book Day", where comic emporiums across the USA give out specially designed literature for free. At this year's edition (5-3-14), two free comic book titles feature the same character: 'Rocket Raccoon', the anthropomorphic star of "Guardians Of The Galaxy" and "Rocket Raccoon" (both from Marvel Comics) - who will soon be seen in CGI format in the movie version of "GOTG", coming to theaters this Summer.
Needless to say, I was able to get free copies of both titles, while venturing throughout Broward County, Florida to collect as much free literature as I could (at no less than five different stores)!
While visiting Tate's Comics in Lauderhill, I came across some of the artists and writers I'd met last year at "PalmCon 2013" in West Palm Beach. And even though I had brought along my GSP and my BBSB (Big Black Sketch Book), I had refrained from asking them to render additional sketches - promising that I'd ask them for the artwork the next time I attend "PalmCOn 2014" (in late September).
Three stores later, I ran into another artist/cartoonist I used to see frequently at some south Florida comic book and sci-fi/fantasy conventions in the past. Namely, it was professional illustrator
MannyCartoon.
He was at a store - one block south of the Broward/Palm Beach County border - helping them promote "Free Comic Book Day", by selling some of his wares and drawing sketches. At the time I'd reunited with him, he was rendering his own black-and-white version of 'Rocket Raccoon' on an art board, which looked pretty good!
So, I'd asked him to draw the critter one more time, this time in my GSP (and handsomely paid him for it, too). And I'd also asked for his permission to post the finished work in my "Fur Affinity" site (crediting him for it, naturally). He consented... Thanks, Manny... Enjoy!
