Oolong is a kind of tea, the word means 'black (< meaning also crow) dragon'. It was actually the first tea I started drinking. I stained this paper with milky oolong leaves and painted the dragon and crow with black chinese ink, using only calligraphic brush . I only wish I could also paint the chinese symbols for the tea in it, but unfortunately I've got not enough skills in calligraphy for that - maybe I'll add the symbols in the future.
This was actually way of overcoming my current art block - I found out that I care too much about the anatomy, lightning, composition, and I started hating my art because the knowledge my brain posses now still didn't get into my hands. I know that will get better with practice, or at least I believe so. But now I needed to paint something where I totally didn't care about these things, just to get at ease with my other art attempts. I quite like the result.:)
I hope you'll like it!

I have that problem though I have nothing like your skill level!
I found that by accepting that I will always be learning my whole life I can accept when my images do not even come close to the visions of my mind. Please don't hate your work. This picture made me smile.
Your work is lovely! I have never head of oolong tea, thanks for introducing me to the idea in such a delightful way.

Thank you very much! I pretty enjoy learning so I could live with that, because I probably will do so and want so nevertheless.:D But with the art it's difficult now. I'll eventually get used to it and start enjoying my art again, painting different way than I'm used to now will probably do - I expect it to get better within a week or so, I usually deal with problems like these pretty quickly. But now I'm kind of overwhelmed with it, so thank you very much for your kind words.<3 Making people smile and happy, that's why making art is worth it.:)
There are sots of oolongs, I like the milky one - it has distinctive creamy scent and very delicate taste. If you like delicate flavors, I surely recommend it.:)

The tea I'm currently drinking, as well as my favourite type! ^^
Really my compliments on the result, the looseness of the picture really makes it shine. It seems to me as if watching a cup of tea steam, I really like it. Hopefully you enjoyed painting it as much as well, very curious to see more pictures in this style! :3

Milky oolong is awesome, I love that tea.:) Unfortunately I ran out of it a few days ago so I can't enjoy it now, but this is definitely one of my most favorite.
I'm glad you like it! And hopefully there will be more like these, I really enjoy working with chinese ink - currently I'm making myself a shoji lamp, so more pictures will come, soon, at least if I won't screw it up.:D

Ooo, try it! I haven't had any other kind of oolong than the milky one so far, but I really like it - it has distinctive creamy scent and very delicate taste.:) Masala Chai is also one of my favorite, though I probably never make it the right way - regarding the amount of spices I put into it.:D Otherwise I enjoy flavored rooibos and hibiscus tea, and also the tea called buddha ama cha has pretty interesting sweet taste, though I didn't find out where they sell it so far. I really need to get that one, so far I've only got it in a local tea room.
Actually anyone who has ever been to a Chinese restaurant and drank the free tea they often give you has actually had Oolong XD...its so hard to find good Oolong in a store.. totally..I've had to get it online to get any decent tasting stuff lol (never thought of it as 'creamy' smelling at all , but I must have had a different kind ..but its very mild for sure)... and this is good pic too yes :3
Haha, in my country they offer free sake instead of tea, I guess there are more alcoholics than tea-drinkers here.xD
It's hard to find oolong in the stores here, too, but fortunately there's really large Basilur store not far away from me. It's definitely good idea to rather try online or tea-specialized stores.
Thank you, I'm glad you like it!

lol ,that is strange.. *free* wine?pretty generous... that is interesting because that also like seems it would be much more expensive then free tea lol.... but maybe its just cheap wine XD (also sake is Japanese wine not Chinese I think o.o;;?) the free Oolong is just a US thing I guess...too bad ..lol... I think the US just has more 'rules' about alcohol( with drunk drivers and all..as opposed to countries were less people drive ..dunno) but I think there is basically an equal amount of alcoholics in all places lol..I think the Oolong offered in most US restaurants is the "golden" kind..I think its pretty basic but good .. its has a mild "toasty" taste :3.. its a light golden brown color..you can this type online pretty easy.
Well, usually it's just a small glass (2dcl) and they don't offer it in every chinese reastaurant. I honestly don't know why they offer sake.:D But as far as I know, the people running Chinese restaurants in our region are usually Vietnamese so I guess that sake is good as long as it's Asian drink.:D I would rather be offered a cup of oolong though.:)
Hmm, about the alcohol restrictions, well, there are some in Czech Republic, too, especially regarding alcohol in combination with driving or work, and also there's additional fee to alcohol, but you can get it basically everywhere and people drink in public a lot. Also the more you drink the cooler you are.:D I don't mind alcohol, as long as it tastes good and I usually just sip a bit to taste it, but when I say I don't want, people look at me as if I was weird and always start persuading me, it feels like drinking alcohol was actually a rule of etiquette. Here the alcoholism seem to be supported by the most of society.:D
Hmm, I've never had the golden one, but I'll surely try it! I would like to get that golden-brown tint in at least one of my pictures.:D

Well yeah ..in some places in the US drinking can be a social or 'popular' to do ..but I think it used to be much more that way here overall in the past rather then now...currently it seems like drinking is usually just seen as personal choice here rather then a requirement for social status XD...and sometimes its even looked down upon in some cases...depends on where you are/who your with..lol,not big on alcohol at all either really ..a bit is fine ..but I like feel in control of myself rather then not :3 I tried this and it tasted like stuff in restaurants I had ( I think its golden) http://www.amazon.com/Foojoy-Classi.....eywords=oolong ..and I can't link the other one I got because Amazon no longer carries it :/... oh well..they tasted about the same anyway.
Its not just a cup with most restaurants here, you get a whole free pot of
Oolong in most cases XD..and get free refills if its just a cup..(of course the cups are pretty small to begin with and hold only maybe a few ounces at most) usually you get free refills on the pot too. :3

Ah, it seem that I misread the translation, as I was interested in how to rewrite the word Oolong into traditional chinese and what exactly do the symbols mean and I didn't realize that I was translating Oolong tea' instead of just Oolong. Also, thank you very much for info!:)
I'm sure that you will get better as you go, with every piece of art that you create. Relax and try to accept the little (and they are little) imperfections in your technique. As far as I see it, they are what makes your art alive. Perfection only feels cold and soulless.
I also like to say that this picture is very beautiful, I think you did well in choosing to draw with a brush. They make softer, organic looking lines and in combination with the warm yellow background the picture gets an almost sublime atmosphere. Great work!

Yup, it's always that way - the more I learn the closer art I can create - may it be closer to my idea or closer to the viewer. It's unhealthy habit to think about your own value and make it equal to your abilities, but even though I usually don't do it I sometimes slip. It's already all right and I'm enjoying the process once more.:)
And I totally agree that perfect art is soulless, the tiny flaws are what make the art unique and eye-catching.
Thank you very much.:) I love to paint with inks, the results are usually much more lively than when I try it with pen. I'm glad you like it!

Thank you! And don't worry, it sometimes takes me a month to reply when I'm busy.:D
It took me two weeks of depression and 'you have to be good! now go and paint!' forcing myself into making art until I realized that's not the way to go.:D When I do so, I don't enjoy art and thus I always create crappy pictures. Now it's finally fine and making art is a fun and a challenging game - and I learn a lot more this way.:) The fact is that art is never gonna be as perfect as I'd like it to be so why bother with persecuting myself for mistakes - the important thing is to convey the idea to viewers anyway. And as hard and discouraging it may sound, this works for me.:D And I also downloaded audiobook of Art and Fear, it's a wonderful book for overcoming these 'problems'.:)
