It's some sort of Mother's Day Pie-A-Thon this year.... with a few muffins.

You probably won't believe this (we were kids then and knew nothing of copyright or whatever) but my sisters sent the toy company a letter with some names we came up with and then, in that big apple cartoon, was the character of Lemon Meringue! Now I know someone else could have easily come up with that food based name as well, but this was exactly a short time after my sisters sent the letter! Alas, it can never be proven but at least I remember it and it makes a interesting story.
Hmm. thinking back to my 80's youth and the dolls my sisters had: I think there was originally Strawberry Shortcake, Blueberry Muffin, Huckleberry Pie and one other. I think it was Apricot Dumpling. But I remember there were then new characters introduced in the Big Apple cartoon (hence, Lemon Meringue) and later even more characters such as two baby twins called Lem and Aida
Then they added characters that included pets as well like Crepe Suzette and her puppy, Éclair. Sour Grapes had a snake; where originally, in the first cartoon special, there was just Custard (Strawberry's cat) Pup cake (Huckleberry's Dog) and Escargot (a very unfortunately named snail that was huge)
Oh yeah and the Peculiar Purple Pie man had a crow, but I don't recall his name (again, trying to go off my memory, not Wikipedia)

Maybe you're right. I guess I could search the web one of these days. My sister used to have everything. She got all the first dolls before they all came with little pets, so, after Mom wrote to Kenner, they sent my sister all the pets for the original dolls. Kenner was pretty cool.
I do recall that Raspberry Tart and ... Plum Pudding were first introduced in the cartoons before they became toys. I never found out if this was true or not, but the toy of Plum Pudding looked like a girl instead of a guy. Cuz, I think other than Huckleberry Pie, Plum Pudding was the only other male " good guy ". I may hafta do some research.
