Davidson Residence, Corvestia, Araius Colony: Omega IV, Infinite Sacrifice, 10/24/2018, 1100
It's never been heard of on Infinite Sacrifice or any of the ship states, you could them that, yeah…ship states. Equivalent to the size of a state on Delta Centauri on the Old North American Continent, in that long historic country taught in history as the United States of America. I always thought that was a weird name for a nation. I shake my head free of those rambling thoughts and focus on the task ahead: Oniichan and I are running……running toward a life or death situation. I can tell by the fading auric shields, however, that it's more so the latter side of the equation.
I burst open the door and rush toward the source of the crying, the auric disturbance in the living room of this home, on the Omega IV colony, in a city twenty thousand Earth miles in relation to our positions in space. Yet, we manage to cover the distance in mere nanoseconds via the Auric Gates linking the colonies. I rush past the family and the white lab coated doctors and nurses, all with due respect of course, to the couch where the auric disturbance field rises. When I heard what happened, when my family heard what happened, we were confused…well they were confused. Me, I’m more open to the plethora of possibilities that can exist in one instance or another.
As I walk toward the elder of the I.C.C.E. (short for Imperial Council of Colonial Elders), I notice straightaway that he's the source of the auric disturbance field, the crying, and the fear in the room. His eyes find me and mine find his. In unison our emerald eyes pass each other, gathering more information than the family or the doctors nearby. He's dying, but not in the sense that everyone around us thinks. Now, though it is known that Zentalis have eternal youth, not all the I.C.C.E. members, or Aquaius Centauri colonists for that matter are Zentalis. Half of them are Norterans. Not much is still known about the Norterans except that they possess our looks, and some of our abilities. One thing they don't possess, that many have obtained from us is one unique strain: eternal youth.
As I watch the man close, I notice straightaway that his breathing begins to slow and his heartbeats become more separated. Soon, I hear nothing. His eyes close, his chest flattens, and his body ceases its existence on this plane of mortality. Seconds later, the ridicules by his wife, the sobs of his children reach my ears. Though different in form, they both say the same: he should have attained eternal youth like most of his colony.
“It's sad, isn't Caiden? They don't know what really happens.”
I scan my left, and find no one. Another scan of my right, and I find no one. Yet, a chuckle reaches my ears seconds later.
“You won't find me here, Caiden. You must see via a different lens.”
My aura begins to burn low around me at the voice again. Straightaway, the elder man seems to rise from his deathbed, yet I know this isn't possible.
He smiles at me as he flashes his vivid emerald green eyes. I blink twice and rub my eyes, yet the man is indeed standing here talking to me. Meanwhile, his body is sitting on the couch adjacent me. I scan the body, then the man hovering in front of me. “Anything is possible, Caiden. You said that yourself, remember? Death is just a door…to a lifetime of possibilities.”
As we open an Auric Gate, I smile at the window pane hovering in nothing, then step through. The Elder was right, Death is just a door…to a lifetime of possibilities. I'm living proof of that after all. It's a shame that some still don't see it. A sigh leaves my lips as I step out the gate and walk toward my room. The instant I cross the threshold, I feel a rush of air under me as I’m being lifted and placed over someone’s shoulders.
“You saw him as well, Caiden.”
A smile inches onto my face as I recognize the voice and then whose shoulder my head rests on. “Mommy, is that you?”
She nods as she sets me on my feet and kneels down to me, “Yep, it’s your Mommy.” She hugs me firm and I giggle as I return the hug. Seconds later, I’m being hugged by her as she rocks in my rocking chair and smiles at me, “So, you saw him, you see that death isn’t something to fear. It’s just a portal…”
“Through which we travel to other existence. Mommy, I get it! I really do! I just wish the others understood as we do.”
