GURPS for character creation is very very interesting, I'll agree on that. The rest of the system I know remarkably little about, as the game I was in was very roleplay heavy with very little crunch (along the lines of, "oh you are doing that thing, roll the relevant skill" unlike a system like D&D where you are rolling dice all the time and the plot is basically just there to move you from dice roll to dice roll).
That's how we played it too. She'd taken uhm... I can't remember the exact names, but her negatives were paranoia (of being hunted), discomfort of being planet side (was a sci-fi setting. She felt safest in zero gravity), and Bloodlust (explained as just emotionally turning off in a firefight, so much so she'd not notice someone trying to surrender/asking for mercy)
....was joked with the group she was basically fluttershy, but with the ability to guide a missile straight into your crotch <_<

Nice!
My character, Avery* ended up with amnesia and a daughter. And he was her mother (hooray for herms!). Due to some resets just because players kept becoming unavailable/forgetting/etc. we ended up having someone join and play the father. It was so much fun teasing the daughter's player about the exact relationships involved (the daughter was a secret the first time around for me, then on a later reboot the GM and I worked out together to do some turnabout and made one of the new people the father).
*There's some pics in my gallery, he dates to before GURPS, but the game was a good opportunity to try him out.

You do not know true amazement until you've read the tale of Grendel http://1d4chan.org/wiki/The_Guy_Who_Cried_Grendel
So much of the fun of Pen and Paper games are the stories of epic victory and epic failures. In a DnD 4th ed game I was in, the big-bad was backstabbed by the thief, 20->20..... one tiny dagger from a halfling cut off half the deamon thing's HP (such roles were normally instantkills..... we all agreed an exception should be made.)

Well HeroSystem is it's own beast. The best thing about it is you're given tools to build anything and everything so you don't need other source books for spells, abilities, or anything (course doesn't stop you from getting the books for pre-built stuff). I've only had a chance to play 1 game with it, and it's a lot of fun. But It's much like comparing D&D as Windows and HeroSystem as GNU/Linux: People are too lazy to learn a new system so they stick with the flaws they are familiar with.
Anyways hope you have fun.

It's a post apoc'ish sci-fi setting. Humanity made AIs, things were fine until AI's went batshit. Earth's a deathtrap to anyone to visit. The setting focuses a lot on the fact that for a large number of characters (mostly PCs) are personalities that are backed up and installed into bodies. People travel by being hoppped into a new body rather than transport by ship (for the most part).
Was getting ready for a campaign, had a character who was a rescued ship AI (lost in earth's orbit, found for salvage later, and oh the AI's still intact). Was going to be the muscle/hackery member of the small group, but no one else got a character together so the DM called it off. I was so looking forward to playing the "well, if I still had naval guns strapped to my side, we'd not need to be so polite" character.
Oh well
