Well, pretty much the same now that we use lasers and CD's... Just goes to show how you can't open your mouth and say something prophetic without the future making a fool of you.

I'm hardly made a fool by speaking of this very real and very necessary step in the process of technological growth. The fact that new ways of doing things now exists does not negate in the least the existance of all the preceding ways of doing things. Take the era of magnetic oxide out of the picture and modern techology wouldn't be where it is today. It is perfectly legitimate to give credit where credit is due.

I've been known to resort to fire and blunt instruments from time to time... nothing is ever entirely obsolete.

It sounds like one of those short films that science teachers play when they're lazy...or hungover, whatever came first.
