Magnetic oxide serves us in so many forms: audio tape, video tape, floppy disks, mag stripes on credit cards, encoded info on tickets and receipts, the list goes on and on. :)

If I remember the things I used to do with a cassette recorder when I was kid...damn..I do. *LOL* I just wish I had saved some of those. I feel nostalgic now...

I saved a lot of mine. :) Unfortunately, having been a kid at the time, I bought cheap tape and now some of them can't be played any more. >_<

acterly, computers predate the use of magnetic oxide for data storage. I had to work on a computer that stored it's data in the form of holes in paper. We used to joke that data had negative weight - the more data stored on a card or tape, the less it weighed!

*chuckle* I worked on computers that had core storage - tiny ferrite doughnuts set in wire mesh, that could be magnetized or unmagnetized and so could store data :)

That's true... we still use magnetic stripes on our credit and debit cards. Hotel keys are another use, That could change though, with radio frequency chips.

That's just what we need, is keys that can be read from a distance and spoofed with fairly simple equipment.

(Also, taperecorders are the perfect recipe for nostalgic beauty! Or is that just a generational thing?)
