This little lady was found a few years ago on one of my many excursions down to the creek bed. She was missing her lower jaw and a tooth from her skull and much of the nose ridge had been eaten away from sitting in creek muck for who knows how long.
So I cleaned her off, carved her a little, and tied a few peacock feathers and seashells to her.
My first few attempts to stain bone were with natural stains like coffee but it never stained the way I wanted it to. It also tended to bleed out in the skull joints rather than show them off like I have seen others do with skulls. So I ended up using wood stain. This was a second attempt and do to the very deteriorated quality of the skull when I found it I wasn't looking for perfection and it is more definitely not perfect. It was more just something to practice with.
I'm not sure if I should try to sell it and what the running cost of something like this would be. Any ideas?

If I kept everything I made my room would be very cluttered. Unfortunately I have to part with some of my works not just for the money but also to simply get rid of them.
Many skulls I see online sell upward to $250 or $300 a pop but those are often intact skull and with much more detailed carving. I have it listed as $50 in the shop.

Well, depending on the amount of work and the process you used for carving in addition to the stain work , you could probably sell this near or in the three digit range. It's a one of a kind piece so don't short yourself on it. I'd say if you mounted it on a placard and I. Or stand you could be safe in asking around $120-$180 for it. It is high quality workmanship.
Did you use a wood burning tool to carve or engraver?

I use a dremel tool, so it cuts through all the way. I made a oopsy when I was originally cutting the design and poked a hole in it and though 'Oh well fuckit we'll do it live'
I think the only reasons it looks ok on this skull is because it was already pretty messed up.
Needless to say I've been far more careful to not do that on the other bones. The cut into look is fine but the embossed look looks much better.
