Research into the RPG Maker series. Some are really powerful and have lots of creative capacity.
I was really into the first one for PlayStation. To the point that I even had a deer character that would combat Humans in a totally hand built combat engine. Problem was, this engine ate up too much of that low RAM amount used in those old PS cards.
