These are pretty much the coolest thing ever. An I.D. badge customized pretty much however you like. You also get multiple copies of a charm that you can give out to people you meet, to induct them into your society. (AC's theme is secret societies, if you weren't aware)
They've been working hard on these, and have a LOT of different badges and con-themes to pick from. Prices range from $20-$35.

And yes, I will be giving out "Dancer Furs" charms to people I meet at AC who fill certain secret requirements. (Hint: It's not a judge of skill, just be you and have fun!) ^^

I'm sorry you feel that way, but I don't think it's fair statement. Just to get this part out of the way: The badges are free for customers to use whatever name for any society they want, real, fake, silly... serious?
As for me personally, I used Dancer Furs because it's a passion of mine, and I have many friends who are into dance. It's no different from something that says "Artist Furs" or "Writer Furs" "Gamer Furs", etc. Unsurprisingly, there are TONS of cliques, dancer furs included, and there's hardly anything wrong with that. Just because a bunch of people generally get along with one another, or have something in common, doesn't mean it's exclusive or comes with any notion of superiority. Just like furry, the only requirement to be in this group is to decide for yourself that you identify as a part of it.
In fact, I specifically got the version of the badge that comes with charms, so I could give them out to people who want to feel included but don't feel they are, or need a little encouragement. We're a friendly bunch, as are most people in most groups. Please don't let hearsay, or experiences with a few bad apples, which you'll find in ANY and EVERY group past a certain size, taint your opinion.

I'm going only off of secondhand knowledge. I know that I got very little help or advice from fursuiters until I got one of my own - then I STILL get very little help or advice :p But the friends that I had, they DID help me, and even let me take a suit for a test run first. So it seems to be more about who already likes you, and less about who is or isn't an ass. Personally, I haven't even MET a dancerfur, so I can't speak of them.
Despite all the talk about popufurs or fursuiters or dancerfurs or artists being hard to approach or standoffish or assholes I haven't met any furry really who I didn't "hit it off" with right away despite them being "a big deal" or whatever and this goes from people who are at their first furry event all the way to con chairs and popular fursuit builders, etc., etc. Maybe I'm charismatic or outgoing or something like that but I wasn't always this way, I used to be a lot more shy but overcame it I guess. You can't really care too much about what some furry thinks, right? So be yourself and go meet people, odds are they are probably a lot more like you than you think. I actually know some "real" celebrities irl and most people like that actually wish that people weren't so intimidated to go up and talk about normal old stuff.
That said, I do know dancer furs who have a negative impression of the group, that participate in it and think it's cliquey and just a group of select people "patting themselves on the back" but I don't think that mentality reflects most of the people involved in it.
