Thought to have origin in ancient China, the Bearded Silkie is a variation of Silkie chicken, a breed known for it’s silk-like feathers, black skin and bones. Their name in Chinese, 烏骨雞 - wu gu ji - literally means “dark boned chicken” for this reason. They are a friendly and very broody stock, but produce slightly less meat than other similar chicken types.
