Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.

*nods* Yeah. Originally, the director was just like, "I want something with a big frilly face, dark but colourful, and a stinger tail", basically. So I thought, "Why would have a big frilly face and a bunch of bright colours on a dark body?" So I figured it would be to bring attention to its face, so it could sting with its tail.

Now these are what quills should look like!
One, I wish that there were more porcupines in this fandom and two, I wish more porcupines would be drawn in a realistic style. I get so sick of seeing ridiculously thick quills that look more like Goku's head than actually quills. There is no doubt that realistic quills are a bitch to draw, ultra time-consuming, but they're totally worth it because it's awesome and rare to see a back full of them, especially when they're put in among the guard hairs that hide them when flattened.
A porcupine's backside, when the quills are erect, should be menacing and you have truly captured that. Kudos.

Thanks a lot! It's appreciated :) And to be honest, I thought the quills would maybe be a pain, but it really just needed me to switch to a thicker brush, lay down some long strokes for the quills, lock the layer, then paint in the stripes over the quills. Ended up being pretty fast!
