So far I haven't seen any issue with watercolor tattoos. I'm sure the main argument against them is tied to the fact that there is no linework to hold the colored inks in place, but my style is often inked with a liner needle rather than a shader, so it goes into the skin differently, sitting deeper to last longer. Detail is often best done with a liner, and I have done watercolor tattoos with a shader needle, but it really shouldn't make that much of a difference over time. For a long-lasting tattoo, you need not only good inks and a good artist, but also good aftercare. Once you leave the shop, our work is done (aside from touchups if you ever need them), and the tattoo belongs to you for the rest of your life - therefore, it is your responsibility to make sure it is well-preserved.
