"Holy crap... this place is huge!"
Artomis couldn't believe his eyes as they made it up to the front gates to the Castle that Xander and Zaphiel wanted him to stay in. The place was four stories tall with several windows lining every floor and two guard towers at the corners. Just before the massive building there were two water fountains with a Latios and Latias looking up towards the sky, spraying water from their mouths.
"Yo, Art! Don't be so amazed! You haven't even seen the inside."
Turning towards the Pikachu, Artomis couldn't help but smile.
"Wow, must be really something in there then. This place is amazing!"
Xander showed a smile as he soon walked ahead, soon standing next to the Riolu in awe.
"We worked really hard to make our dream a reality. This is our Castle... it will be the home of our Guild once we finally get the approval papers back from the committee. We have everything we need and do acts as a running guild, but sadly we are not official yet."
Showing a nod, Artomis began to walk ahead after following Xander's lead. The Kadabra opened the large doors using his psychic abilities which only made Art more awe struck.
"Zaphiel, your task is to give Artomis here the grand tour of the place. When you are finished, come to my office with him. I have a mission for the two of you that will help our little friend here get used to himself."
The Pikachu showed the Guild master a nod, but Artomis cocked his head to the side in confusion.
"Get used to myself...? You mean this body?"
Showing a nod, Xander stepped inside the Castle with the other two close behind.
"Exactly. For the times ahead, you will need to be able to master your powers... for your sake, and possibly the Pokémon world as well."
“...And this is the best place in the whole Castle!”
Artomis looked at the Pikachu with an exhausted glance, his brow twitched in annoyance. He was literally shown every part of the castle besides this room and Xander’s office.
“...Look, if it doesn’t have Xander, a bed, or food… I really couldn't give a shit about some big empty room… this whole place has been empty. Where are all the other Pokémon?”
Zaphiel frowned, leaning against the wall next to the door. He had been hyped the entire time as he was showing the place to the new recruit. Art expected him to ramble on with an excuse and be upset that he disregarded his fun with a snide comment. Instead, he showed a smile.
“Well… I can answer everything right here right now. First, no one’s here cuz we’re not open yet. Duh, Xander said that. We technically can’t recruit until we get the okay, but you’re kind of a special case.”
Giving a weak nod, Artomis soon rested himself against the wall on the other side of the door, propping his back to it and lifting his leg to prop his foot against the wall for support.
“I guess I can understand that… but jeez. This place is huge! How are you going to fill it up?”
“Shush! You ask too much, my head hurts enough already! Damn! I was getting to the best part!”
Artomis blinked, rather confused as Zaph shook his head. With what he had asked, Art never expected there to even be a good part. Watching as the Pikachu pushed himself off the wall and walk up to the doors, only to open them up to what looked like an empty cafeteria.
“The best part… is that with no one here, it’s a clear Race Battle to the kitchen!”
“Race… battle?”
Pushing off the wall himself, Artomis began to get nervous. He had never even thought of battling… even with being a Pokémon, he had no idea if he could do anything to defend himself. He was a human in disguise… wasn't he?
“Yeah, but don't worry! I know you’re fresh to… uhhh… the Pokémon body? I guess? So I won't attack, I’ll only use support abilities. If you know anything, go ahead and use it. I can handle anything you got!”
Artomis could only stare at Zaphiel as the regulations were in place. He couldn’t believe he would put such a handicap on himself.
“Well, I won't use anything then… not like I know anything anyway-”
“Oh, but that’s only the beginning! You see, in a Race Battle… it’s all or nothin’! You win, you get to eat your fill. You lose, you get one single berry… that’s all.”
Shirking back at that, Artomis knew he didn’t want to wager his dinner for some stupid game. On the other hand… he didn’t know why, but he felt excited for it. He could feel his body starting to tingle a bit. It felt almost like the time Xander was trying to read his mind, but it felt different.
“Damn… High stakes huh? well you’re on! I’ve been dying to eat since I woke up… we’ve walked like a hundred miles just through this castle alone! There’s no way I’m gonna let you win!”
---
“Do it again~! Come on Kuro!”
Laughing hard, the Fenniken tried to catch her breath from the last trick she had pulled. Levinity had told the two that they should practice using abilities, and Reix seemed to really love the flames of her Ember attack. They didn’t attack each other of course, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t practice attacking the air.
“It’s so pretty every time you do it! Your fire glows so bright and it glitters a pretty color!”
“Huh? pretty color?”
Kuro had to stop and think a moment. She hadn’t been paying attention to her attack’s color, more over concentrating on actually using it.
“Well, I guess I’ll do it one more time then. Last one though okay? I’m getting really tired… this one seems to wear me out.”
The Shinx gave her a small nod and took a step back to watch at a safe distance. Kuro was glad she was such a well mannered little girl. Smart too. All she could talk about during the first hour of their practice was about how much her mom had taught her.
“Oh! After you do this, I’ll try that pretty yellow one I can do!”
Smiling over to Reic, Kuro showed a nod to her as she prepared to use another Ember. Looking ahead, she focused her energy and felt her body starting to burn hot. It wasn’t painful to her, which was odd at first, but she soon started to welcome the feeling each time she used it.
Letting out her breath, she saw the spark, and then a small burst of flame. The majority was red and orange with a bright yellow flare, but there seemed to be a teal tint and glimmer as the flames started to fade.
“Woah… that’s interesting.”
Gasping as she turned around, Kuro looked up to see Levinity behind her. She hadn’t even heard her coming in the slightest. Being glad she was friendly, Kuro let out a soft sigh.
“Wait, what’s interesting?”
“Your flame… there’s more to your abilities than any of us know, I am sure of that…”
Kuro felt her ears droop as she saw the Luxray go deep into thought.
D...Did I do something wrong again… oh no…
“Maybe I should… No.. He couldn’t know anything about you… could he?”
Not wanting to say anything to interrupt Levinity’s thoughts, Kuro stayed her ground and looked up at the mother’s proud stature. Even when she was thinking, she looked confident and ready for anything while doing it.
“Kuro, Reic. I think in a few days we’re going to take a trip to the town and try to meet up with an old friend of mine.”
Tilting her head, the Fenniken felt herself ease a little.
“Friend? Why are we going to meet someone… I… I’m not… good at meeting others…”
“It’s okay, Kuro. He is one that will understand that as soon as he meets you. Xander has a way of knowing things… and I have a feeling the guy is spoon deep in this, and I want to know what’s going on myself. I knew he started that damn guild for a reason…”
Hearing a small gasp from Reic, Kuro watched as the little Shinx ran up to her mother.
“Mommy! You never say the bad words! Don’t say that Damn word! No Damn! No say Damn!”
Blinking down at her daughter, Levinity couldn’t help but giggle. She leaned down and gave her muzzle a small lick.
“You’re absolutely right… But remember, you can’t say it either, not even to tell me not to say it.”
Now it was Reic’s turn to blink in confusion, then her eyes went wide at the realization.
“...I said it three times… Oh no… Mommy, I don’t wanna spend… ughh.. five… nine… no, wait… ten…”
Both Kuro and Levinity couldn’t help but find watching the little Shinx trying to count on her paws cute. She was trying so hard to figure it out herself, that neither of them wanted to interrupt.
“fi...fifteen! fifteen minutes! Awe man! That's like forever Mommy! Please! I don’t wanna!”
“Reic, it’s okay, hehe. Calm down now, you’re not going to spend time in the corner. You were helping me from being a bad girl myself. Just don’t say the bad words yourself next time, okay?”
Kuro could see the look of relief in Reic’s eyes as she smiled up at her mother.
“Oh, good… I’m sorry momma… I won’t say it again.”
Giving her daughter a nod, Levinity then turned and looked at the Fenniken before her. She seemed to have something else on her mind with the small grin she held.
“Alright… now that we’ve settled that, it’s time for a pop quiz from your training today.”
Both of them stared blankly at the Luxray, wondering what was on her mind. She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath and thinking a moment.
...Well, there’s no doubt about it. She’s going to challenge us to a battle. Two on one… But do we really stand a chance against her?
“So Levinity… you want to battle us? I… I don’t know if I’m ready.”
The Luxray smiled down at her, soon taking a few steps back and turning away. She let herself get a decent distance away from them before turning back.
“That’s exactly right… you’re a smart girl Kuro. Seems you’re already beginning to tap into that Psychic power your line holds. Harness that power, and fight me.”
Looking over to Reic, Kuro could see a little fear in her eyes as she stared at her mother. As much as she knew she didn’t want to, Kuro also knew that Levinity wouldn't do anything to harm them.
“Hey, Reic. It’s alright… Let’s do it!”
The Shinx gasped.
“Wait, you can’t be serious?! That’s my Mom!”
Kuro showed a smile to her friend and then looked to her mother.
“That’s why we have to. She wants to see if we can defend ourselves… That’s why we worked so hard today.”
It took a couple moments, but soon Reic’s eyes showed a shimmer of confidence.
“Ohh… you’re right! Yeah! We’re gonna take you down Mommy!”
---
“Ready?”
“Heh, As ready as I’ll ever be. Let’s do this already!”
Propping himself at the ‘starting line’ of the doorway, Artomis looked to his right at Zaphiel. His eyes were ahead and his right side up front, ready to burst at any moment. He could tell Zaph was just as serious about winning as he was.
“Alright then, on three! One… Two… Three!”
The two Pokémon both jumped ahead into the dining room area. They both started to make a mad dash towards the entrance to the kitchen. It was a good distance away, so Art knew it would make for an interesting race. He was glad no one was here, though, it would be dangerous to try this if there were others around.
“Too slow Arti! Come on now! You can do better than that.”
Looking to his right, he could see the Pikachu starting to gain a lead. He could see the yellow mouse start to glow a little. It wasn't long before the glow dissipated, but once it did he seemed to move much faster than before.
“H...hey! Using Agility?! Not cool man!”
“Hahahaha! See you at the finish line!”
Gritting his teeth, Artomis tried to think hard for a solution to beating Zaphiel.
Damnit... I wish I could do something here... if I don't eat I'm going to pass out!
As the Riolu was about to give up hope, he began to feel his vision fade out and his head spike in pain.
"W...will you help us?! Use Quick Attack! Hurry! Before they get us!"
Feeling as his body lunged and whipped ahead, Artomis felt himself slam into something and let out a small yelp, his body tensing after the blow. He felt himself fly in the air for a moment before slamming into the ground and tumbling a few feet, landing hard on his stomach.
He felt numb, sick even. His body couldn’t seem to relax and his mind felt like it was about to burst.
“Arti…! Ugh, Arti! Are you okay?! What’s wrong?!”
He tried to use all his might to talk, but he couldn’t find the strength. All he did was lay there a moment, feeling his friend flipping him gently onto his back.
“Just take it easy man, alright? Don’t need you killin’ yourself anytime you learn to use an attack.”
He managed to nod to Zaphiel, his eyes slowly starting to open.
“Uhhh…. Arti? Weren’t your eyes red before?”
His mind could barely comprehend the question the Pikachu had asked, but he managed to force out his answer.
“I… I guess… I don’t know… I never looked…”
Zaphiel frowned at that, giving a sigh.
“Well, if I remember right, they were… but now they’re… blue. That’s so weird.”
Artomis looked up at Zaphiel as best as he could, confused at what was really even going on.
“Wait… Did.. I just have a flashback…? Was that from my memory…?”
“...Oookay, went over my head on that one buddy. Mind explaining things out and doing it slowly? I have a brain the size of a mouse you know.”
He couldn't help but smile a little from the small joke there, but he felt his smile vanish as he stared up at the ceiling.
“...I… I heard a voice. I don’t know who or what… but it told me… someone, I guess, to use Quick Attack.”
Watching as the Pikachu’s ears folded back, Artomis began to wonder if he ever sounded weird to these guys. He couldn’t help but wonder… how did they know he was a human? Why would they even believe him if he had told them? Nothing was making any sense to him on why these two were helping him, and why they seemed to know more about him than he did.
...I need to relax. I’m getting myself worked up over a memory or something… I need to think of that as a clue.
“If that’s true… then maybe… you were a trainer? Maybe it was you issuing the command.”
Looking down, Artomis couldn't help but sigh. He couldn’t tell if the voice was his own or not, he wasn’t exactly able to focus when it happened. But still… it would make sense to him. He did seem to know a lot about pokemon.
“Yeah maybe, but to what? I didn’t see anything… I was in too much pain to do anything at all really.”
“Does that matter? If your memory is really gone, it will take a while to get them all back right? Just relax! You’ll find everything out! And it seems you’re already making a good start by kicking my ass in that race.”
The Riolu blinked at Zaphiel before him. He started to sit up and looked around, realizing he was in the middle of the kitchen floor, and there were even a few Pokémon staring at them in shock.
Zaphiel looked up and soon noticed them as well. His expression turned from happy and confident to embarrassed and apologetic.
“Oh shit, I’m so sorry guys! We… We were having a race, and-”
“Hey Zaph, we’re used to it by now. Glad to know you still lose, even when not facing me or Xander, heh.”
Looking in the direction of the voice, Art soon felt his eyes go wide as he stared up at one massive Blastoise. The gigantic Pokémon towered over him, the turtle’s large green eyes staring right into his own.
“Pathetic as always… and I see you got a new twerp with you too. I thought I told Xander to stay away from the weaklings. He’s gonna run this Guild to the ground if he keeps this up.”
