So, what's the skinny on her being shelless?

Well, I originally designed her back when I was a teenager, and the shell was NOT SEXY, so I removed it from her by making her some funky hybrid creature.

Recently, when I got back into drawing these guys, I did a redesign, but not before I finished inking this pic, which is why she still has no shell. She'll look more like this ref sketch from now on:
