I should have done this beauty a long time ago, but at least it is now done!
Some of you that know me have made some critiques about how some people draw thylacines completely wrong *cough* http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10286142/ *cough* http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12222761/ *cough*.
But recently I realised that I've never actually have done anything to show the right way to draw these creatures and how they actually look like (and I've seen one tutorial about thylacines that it showed how to do some of the wrongs things, eeeeek).
Hopefully this tutorial can be helpful to someone and spread awareness on how thylacines look like and that they are not simply generic wolves/dogs with stripes slapped on their backs. And like I said in the tutorial always research anything you want to draw!
I had lots of fun sketching this tutorial and coming up with good and bad examples for the anatomy, and I hope you guys also enjoy this tutorial!
(The tail with a hairy tip that resembles a lion's tail is about the original Tiny Tiger design, as much as I love the character, he barely have any of the thylacine features *aside from the huge mouth* so thats why I did my own version of him: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10628042/ )

Mmm honestly to say there are tons of pictures and movies of 'various' thylacines is a bit of a myth. Seeing as the only real photo's of 'wild' thylacines are those depicting hunters having already killed and skinned them.
The one's we do have are of the same small pack that was forced into captivity at a rather unprepared zoo. The bony backside was taking from the sickly female >.<
So it's truly hard to say just how to draw one of these amazing creatures 'exactly' correct.

The thing is, is that there are a ton of photos of them alive, dead, taxidermid (?) and skeletons of them and even a video of the last known thylacine kept in a zoo.
So even if those photos might be a bit 'wrong' (maybe the thylacines being a bit too skinny or something) there is no excuse of just drawing them as fluffy wolves with stripes on their back.
Since there are OBVIOUS differences that people seem to ignore that you can see on these photos (semi-digitigrade legs, thin tail, short and round ears, long muzzle etc.)
so this tutorial might not show EXACTLY how they look like, but at least try to get as close to the real thing. Since in the last part I did several different thylacines with different body types but still keeping those features.

In all fairness... all the Thylacines I know of are usually hybrids. So them having pointed ears or fluffy tails is usually the choice of the creator. Not really the artist failing to see how to correctly draw something.
Thanks for the tutorial on how to draw the one creature I'm spiritually connected to. I'm sure it will indeed help others.
Just... please don't be a Nazi about it. Art is expression and if I was to be a nazi like that about this whole thing I'd easily be able to tell you that Thylacines don't have muzzles like rodents and their heads don't look like panthers. Just draw, have fun and don't try to tell people how to draw realism on a site dedicated so boldly to that which is fantasy.
Have a wonderful evening ^.=.^

I am definitly not talking about thylacine hybrids, or any kind of hybrid, those I really don't mind since people can come up with anything they want (like a thylacine shark I've seen a while ago).
But my problem is people who make a character that is *only* a thylacine but look like an anthro wolf or an anthro kangaroo with stripes. It just show that some people don't care doing research on anything that is different and end up going for a generic dog/wolf look.
And I'm not being a "nazi" because I'm not attacking anyone that have these "thylacines" designed the wrong way so no need to worry about that, I just talk with my friends about those wrong designs.
