Because things that benefit an artist offend viewers.
Higher prices, more enjoyable to make content, more 'fun' art - it wounds them like a hot scalpel penetrating their tender, discoloured, infected flesh.
Pay no heed to your watchers dear and produce content the way you want to; because in the end you are the one making the content, not them. If they make an uproar and stomp off in a huff then other people will trickle in who like your flavour / brand / general sort of way of things.

^This is pretty much my main gripe with Weasyl. Being able to see the whole image as a thumbnail lets me quickly sort though and remove submissions that I have little to no interest in. I'd also like to see more and better management options (remove all, invert selection, etc).
True, they have improved since the beta, which I had gotten in on the tail-end. I watch and follow lots of folks there and have no problem with an artist choosing how or where they're going to post their works. Though I admit I'm still very much in the habit of cruising FA by default. It'll take a while to break that habit.
That's all well and good I suppose, but from prior antics where they forced folks too it seems most of the artists I watched from the great site-swap are still using thumbnails. It's not as bad as it was, but it's still plenty annoying. I'd known they'd allowed it, but 50-60% still sport the problem I dealt with. I do adore Weasyl for what it's trying to do, and I supported it back in beta. I just don't like the community's preference for the thumbnails as prevalent as they still are.
Floe: I put a censored picture on FA
Fans: (A censored pic on FA? How could you!?...stay calm.) Hey, anything you want. (All that cock taste, that sweet popcorn flavor. I love them and I can't HAVE THEM! AUUUGH! >:-E )
Floe: It's on Weasyl
Cock is part of this complete breakfast
Fans: I gotta have my Cocks.

Uhh this is the way that I'm thinking about it.
Floe puts up censored art directing users to Weasyl,
Fans don't want to spend time reading their submissions list to see censored art, and have to redirect to get "the full experience"
So they unfollow...
Is the number of people watching that important?

Its more that some of us have seen this before, with other migrations, and though some artists have the time to run multiple accounts on myriad websites (for some it is their job, afterall) its annoying for fans who have already settled on one site.
I'm staying here. I don't have the time or inclination to check multiple furrrybutts sites every day. I've got enough social media pings and messengers through my RL that adding another site to the pile, one that will in most cases be duplicate data from a site I already browse, is asinine.
Weasyl might be a great site for artists, but I tried it as a watcher and a commissioner and it does not appeal to me. It feels like a better place for artists to interact. That fact that some artists are trying to hard to lead me by the nose is annoying. I've made my choice. I already know its there and I don't have any urge to try it again.

Same here. I'll continue to follow you here, but I'd rather not add yet another site to visit.
On the other hand, I don't really understand why someone would stop watching you just because you'll be posting more stuff over there. While you're giving feedback though, I do have something you might want to add. I tend to be less likely to join sites that force you to register before you can access most of the content.
Sure, FA forces you to register before viewing adult submissions, (instead of letting you click "I agree") but I think we can both agree FA has several things that can be improved.

Thank you, nearly my thoughts too you have mentioned.
One thing i assume artists are missing is: I, the watcher, do not need a site highly adapted to the needs of an artist, i want one wich is to my likings, be it for pics or handling.thats why i never got the nerve browsing long time on da and it would not happen over an said site either.

A lot of people don't want to switch just because they don't want to switch websites. Even with all of FA's problems and severe lack of professionalism a lot of people won't care unless the issue arrives at their doorstep. Artists providing legitimate incentives to encourage people to move over is something that's required if we ever want to actually move away from FA.
I think you should just have images that are exclusive to Weasyl. Don't even post a version here. Make mention of this feature of your Weasyl gallery in your signature/footer or in your profile. The fans that you have that actually want to see more of your work will go and visit. The crybabies that just want fap material, well they'll just stay ignorant like they are now.
Actually its not about the censoring at all. Its about the mild attempt at coercion. Floe has her opinions on the web sites obviously that's great for her. If she wants people to follow her there then let them know she is there and leave it up to them to make up their mind. That's not what she did with that image. She is trying to coerce via teasing sample to make people follow her there. Is it a vicious or forceful coercion no but it is coercion non the less. That can easily rub people the wrong way.
I do not think this is coercion at all... http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coercion
I know what you are getting at but the way you have come across does not show you in a good light. You are a kind and very articulate person but your arguments below are very insulting to Flow, not only as an artist but as a person. I have a feeling your emotions got the better of you on this one.

I never really understand the huge fuss really when artists do this thing (I don't disagree with you at all just to make that clear!). To me it reeks of either laziness or what basically can be comparable to blind patriotism, as you either got "I'm too lazy" or "Weasyl sucks" out of it in a huge huff. The latter always worry me because they seem unquestioning of the site at all (and later the likely inability to work as it relies on HTML4 when we're moving to HTML5 now)
It kinda reminds me of back in the day when dA did something stupid and everyone started jumping ship to SheezyArt (Remember there? hahaha). I wonder if there's an "Ant-Weasyl" group on FA....

"This artist decided to go change their policy in a way I disagree with, so I'm going to unfollow them."
"If you do this then you are clearly forcing them into thinking they should change the overall product because that's the only conclusion one can take from unfollowing one's work. Entitlement. Entitley Entilement Entitlemon. Entitlemean. Entitleblob."

Yes it is mild and soft but yes. All you had to do was say hey guys my artwork is here and let people make up their own mind. But you are trying to coerce them with the promise of material that is not here and showing them a tease of it. That is a mild attempt at coercion after all you pretty much even say yourself its an attempt to get people to follow you over there. That is a mild form of coercion that rubs some people wrong
They are somewhat the same yes but the difference you are missing is all of that is an attempt to sell. What you are doing is trying to get someone to change there prefernce over something. Most know weasly is out there and have made the choice to stay on fa. You by doing this posting here are trying to coerce them to chane that choice. I am all for censored samples of pay work and have bought some because of such. This is just not the same. Fa vs weasly is a choice unrelated to if the art or anything else is worth paying for. Its all about opinions o where we want to be and you like your place better thata great for those of us that like here better you can share your art or not but posting teasers and saying come over here to the place you dont like as much because I like it more is going to catch some flack.
And Floe. I feel you want your wachers to follow you to weasly. I can inderstand that. How about intead of saying I dont care if you like fa better if you want to see full versions go to weasly anyway why noy sell us on weasly. Extol its virtues tell us why you like it more. I am sure you are likely to get more converts that way and not face such drama in the process.
What, you mean drama from disrespectful people like you? You've shamed her for her decision based on the fact that you feel "coerced". Here's my reco for you: enjoy FA QUIETLY and let the people/artists who enjoy Weasyl and direct their users over there do so without your commentary. It's you who are trying to coerce others by making them feel bad about their personal choices. Stay out of it and enjoy the site you like so very much, or don't. But don't take it out on Floe. Jeez.
I think you should look up disrespectful. It does not mean what you think it does it seems. I was never disrespectful to her. She seemed to wonder why people reacted like they did. This I believe is why. Perhaps I will address your other issues once you learn how to make your feelings and ideas known with out being disrespectful. Hopefully this use of the word will help you via context clues.
> ???
> Profit!!
Seriously, though, with how laggy FA's been as of late (for me, at least), I would not mind terribly if all of the artists I watch suddenly moved to Weasyl. The only real reason I'm still mostly here is because everyone else is. A terrible reason, I know, but this is a fairly social sort of website; it doesn't do much good if relatively few people are here.

To quote you from that image in question:
"I want people to use weasyl."
To be honest, you worded that horribly. You can't tell people what website they have to use :P
That wasn't what you meant I guess, but it reads that way.
Sure, FA kinda sucks. It's stuck in 2008 where websites looked boring and didn't work some times. But is it unsafe? From what I can tell it is just as unsafe as any other site. Any database can be hacked.
So again, having preferences is ok. Trying to force your preferences on others is not.

As for me, I am a little pissed about that wording as well :P I want to use FA. Period. Most people I got to know in this community have stayed here and they are why I stay anyway. I don't care where I look at art, I do care about the community though. And what other options are there? SoFurry, Inkbunny and Weasyl.
I've made bad experiences with the SoFurry community, Inkbunny is full of open pedos, baby-idiots and animal fuckers and on Weasyl you have the anti-FA hugbox going on.
And while Weasyl looks good I just don't see what that site offers me compared to FA. To me it is nothing but an FA clone in beta witha facelift. Or am I missing something?

- Better staff. This could be like eight separate bullet points but just. yeah.
- A staff team that can actually handle issues (hey, remember that thing where the dude was spamming new accounts and FA shut down registration for over a month? Yeah Weasyl had that fixed in like an hour).
- Public staff Code of Conduct.
- Reliably-scheduled downtimes that don't last a week past what they were supposed to.
- Up-to-date updates on said downtimes.
- Better system for blocking users.
- An actual system for blocking tags!
- Tags for journals.
- Differences between friends and watchers.
- Settings on your submissions and journals that make them only for friends.
- Critique requests.
- Ability to hide your favorites.
- Automatic Livestream announcements and a list of who is streaming.
- Built-in commission status indicator.
- Collections.
- A separate section for characters.
- Folders! Holy mother of god, they have folders! With their own settings.
- Lines that connect nested comments so you know who was replying to who holy shit.
- The ability to edit settings for each person you follow (so you can see only art from Person A or no stream statuses from Person B).
- The ability to have your username changed.
I know there's more but this is all I could think of off the top of my head. Basically it takes everything everyone's been begging for on FA for years and gives it to us. And more.

I don't use most of the features, either, but it's nice that they're there in case I do want to utilize them someday.
By better staff I simply mean that, in my experience (and the experience of a lot of people I know), the staff there has been better about dealing with issues, especially user-by-user issues. It took less than 12 hours to get my usernames changed there (which requires an email request), but I have a TT here that will turn 1 year old soon that has no activity at all. Which is, sadly, a very common problem with FA.

I actually very much prefer the layout to FA's (except the recent addition of the favorites bar; good lord that's hideous). But that's merely aesthetics, and while I'm an incredibly aesthetic person, the number of awesome features really outweigh the slights in the layout, imo.
I'm not sure what you mean about the thumbnails? It gives you a bunch of options. You can upload your own, create one from the image you're posting, or have the site automatically generate one. Unless you mean you dislike thumbnails in general which, eh, I can understand. I personally prefer the cleaner look of them all being the same size and shape.
I suppose for someone who's a browser and not an uploader, aesthetic annoyances could be enough to warrant not using the site. But as someone who uploads work there, the functionality of the site is just far too nice for me to ignore.

People are reacting as if you held a gun in their face and said "USE WEASYL OR YOU WONT GET YOR PORN" and I think it's ridiculous.
GOD FORBID AN ARTIST FEELS COMFORTABLE ON A NAVIGATABLE SITE WHERE TAGS CAN BE BLOCKED AND GALLERIES HAVE FOLDERS IMMEDIATELY AND VAST UPLOADING OPTIONS AS WELL AS A SMALL CARING GROUP OF PEOPLE RUNNING THE SITE.

STOP TRYING TO FORCE ME TO USE OTHER SITES HOW DAAAAAAARRE YOU
Holy CHRIST some people are stupid and mean. I DO want people to use Weasyl - it's a fantastic site that lets you block stuff and there's the option to crop your pics how you want, you can customize your page with a banner. It's really great! I've wanted to migrate fully over there for a while myself.
Stay the course and don't let the asshats commenting in this journal about....fucking COOERCION omg omg what...get you down. Do you really want insane people like that following you anyway? Holy shit, I wouldn't! I want followers that RESPECT me and my decisions as an artist. DAMN.

I 'think' I have a Weasyl account. I just haven't gotten around to using it. I'd bet a dollar that sooner or later Weasyl will have it's own Android and iOS apps for mobile viewing. That'll never happen on FA, but maybe on Weasyl...
Btw, still following on FA, Floe. If I make my way around to Weasyl soon, I'll be following there too.

Still don't see how that is forcing you to create an account. It isn't any different than stumbling upon an artist on another site (that you don't have an account on) that you enjoy, but isn't present anywhere else. The only difference is that this is just a preference for using one over the other.
No one is forcing you to do anything, stop being a drama queen.

I saw the censorship. Thought it was a little strange to see on FA, kinda something I'd expect on DA or SA since they actually have policies against porn, but FA has a button to switch off the porn, so long as you use the mature setting.
Doesn't bother me, just seems strange to see censorship on a site that doesn't really do that. Still a fan.

I think it's not even about FA and Weasyl. It's much more political and ideological than that.
To the extreme Weasyl haters, Weasyl means "Social Justice Warriors" and all the baggage that comes with the title. They believe that by going on Weasyl they will be harassed for having some sort of privilege and accused of being a "rape apologist and therefore rapist by proxy" for something like being into BDSM or non-con, or not believing everything that some radical feminists on the internet say, especially relating to rape. They associate Weasyl with the SJW blog FurryScumbags that has said some pretty insane things.
It's an irrational association, since from my experiences, I have almost never run into any SJWs by accident on Weasyl, but these people still have that association in their minds.

I know you're not terrible. You're pretty awesome.
I have almost never met any bad feminists IRL. Aside from some worker in an alternative bookstore who called me a shitlord for asking if they had Reason Magazine (was curious) and then bragged about how she wasn't attracted to me when I, as a gay man, wasn't attracted to her either.
On the internet, you do run into many more, just like you run into many more insanely blatantly misogynist people than you do IRL.
I think the reason many people don't want to call themselves feminists now is because they go online and see a few people who make cookies with menstrual blood in them, claim that all heterosexual intercourse is rape, or are transphobic toward transmen for being "gender traitors" or something. Seeing that, without a proper education in critical thinking, they then assume that's what feminism's about, believing that their small corner of the internet is an accurate representation of real life. Or they find sources of instances in which someone calling themselves a feminist did something stupid, not realizing that those sources are often right-wing and Tea Party favorites.
Ultimately, we've just gotta go outside in the REAL world more and meet REAL people.

Always remember, nobody is owed your artwork and skill. It is not 'coercion', it is not 'tricking', it is not anything that implies a fan is too stupid to know whether or not they want to take the effort to sign up to another site. If they don't care enough, they don't sign up. If they care enough, they do. It's nothing to do with 'fair' or 'unfair', and thinking any other way about it is pure, unfiltered entitlement.
Stick to your guns! I did the same thing, but I was more aggressively pre-emptive in stating, "I don't care what you think about this decision", which seemed to help cut a bunch of the backlash out. Though I'm sure it would have been different if I had censored porn, because as you learned, people get really, really mad about that.
On a side note, I love Weasyl's character system.

floe presses a knife to throat. you feel them breathing down your neck. "do it", they whisper. a bead of sweat drips down your skin as they guide your hand to the "join weasyl" button. "i just want to go home! i hate thumbnails!!!!!", your exclaim, voice broken and face drenched in tears as you type in a password and wonder how you're going to pick up the pieces of your life, now DESTROYED because you joined a new website.

that is the same thing as censoring a dick. apparently. good job, FA.

Hey this is COERCION. I'm going to keep using the word COERCION even though I have no idea what the word COERCION means because I just learnt the word COERCION a few minutes ago from webcomic and now I've gotta use COERCION to describe everything I come across because I want to sound like I know what the word COERCION means because I think that makes me sound like I know what I'm talking about even though I can barely hold my brain cells together long enough to form the word COERCION on the page.
Read some of the comments and as I was reading, the words turned into a cacophony of infants crying in my head. And the people saying you're forcing them to do something just takes the cake. Every single cake.
I'M STILL A HUGE FAN and I'm glad you have a place you feel safer about posting things to <3

See, this is six months late, but...
You said explicitly "I want to make people use Weasyl."
...What the hell were you expecting? People don't exactly appreciate people wanting to make them do -anything- whether that thing is good or bad.
In my case, I refuse to use Weasyl. I despise the site for my own reasons. Just like I despise Inkbunny for the twenty thousand images a day of cub rape. And just like I hate this site for being an unorganized, unreliable POS.
The difference being that I don't give a fuck what people do; I come here, look at pictures, then go on with my day. If an artist uses another site, good on them.
Just my 2 cents.
