Sorry, no octopus today. Hotaru gari literally means firefly hunting and is the summer pastime of enjoying watching the fireflies. A popular theme in Ukiyoe. You could just admire them, or do as we do today with glass jars - put them inside a little insect cage and bring them inside to enjoy in the dark. The metallic pigments did not scan well at all - this card is really pretty in person. ACEO acrylic on paper.

Hotaru gari...the term makes catching fireflies sound almost ritualistic. Probably because it's a foreign term.
As for the piece, I love that peacock feather obi, it looks lovely.
I do have one question, though: I've seen this particular feline lady in several pictures already, does she have a name?

Thanks! And no, I don't really think of her as one particular person (and therefore needing a name). She's really just symbolic of the generic beauties you see in Japanese woodblock prints. I have a few people bugging me to come up with a history and personalities for my characters (and maybe do some fiction or web comic) but I just don't have the time.
Thanks! I have almost an obsession for hands. I think hands should be part of the story, just just kind of hanging there. Since these cats are really representing humans and human activities, sometimes it's a challenge to draw them correctly, especially when they're holding things. I mean, a cat can't really hold chopsticks or whatever.
