Endless Realms bestiary - Forest Walker
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.

Okay, I know there are a lot of nature/grass/plant canines out there, so when I was asked to make one for the game, I tried my best to avoid replicating any designs I specifically knew of >_>

this creature really REALLY looks like it should be a companion to either a high level Druid, a Nymph or even an Elvin Forrest class character..
and not knowing how *BIG* it is.. for all I know, it could be bigger then a horse, thus "ridden" into battle like a powerful steed..
SERIOUSLY EXCELLENT design hon.. FABULOUSLY elegant and very *VERY* beautiful and creative!

This is stunning! And, may I add, quite unlike anything I've seen before! Those antlers especially are just breathtakingly gorgeous.
If/when this game gets released in book form, can I get an autographed copy of the monster manual? I'll pay for shipping to you and everything xD Seriously, it is so cool to see all these creatures you're creating!

These are consistently amazing. I've drawn "tree dog" creatures before and they are always fun, but this is amazing. So gorgeous and unique and vibrant with all the rich shades of green. I also love the vine tail, it's different than what I would usually think of just using a bunch of long leaves to constitute the tail. He's very alien, yet also recognizable. Great work with these. I think this is so far my favorite.
I can understand that. I drew a plant wolf creature a long time ago, it was so much fun to do, I should redraw it some time. Anyhow, I took ALOT of inspiration from other artwork of plant life and "tree people" archetypes from fantasy games. But this one is quite unique, never seen one like it!
Hehe. I just mostly went with "generic deciduous sapling" for antlers and "long blades of grass" for the mane, and sorta generic "short grass" for the torso. I considered putting little mossy growths or patches or bushes or something along his back, but it seemed to get in the way of his antlers (at least, the way I drew it here), and made him look too busy. I also considered putting flower or blossoms or something on him, but I didn't want him to be too feminine, as it were - the game already is working on including more "female-appeal" creatures, so I didn't think I needed to make this guy particularly flowery or anything.
Ah very nice. Yah it's subtle as it needs to be and doesn't need to be too complicated for it to look good, but I do like the lighting on the grass, gives it a kinda wet dewish look to it. The one I drew had small little trees sprouting out of his shoulders and back.
This one looks a lot more focused on a specific design though, it all looks like it was intentional. Mine I just kinda started drawing and stuff happened lol.
The flowers would open up for interesting designs, but yeah, it would make him kinda busy and feminine. But, and if they do have two genders, like you said it would make for an interesting female appeal design.

But it's awesome when that happens! Seems like some of the coolest art happens that way :b
And yeah, if I ever do adoptables of the species (I'm told I could), I could make some more flowery ones, as well as other themes, which might be fun :)
