I dunno, but you should mess about with it :) Is it the Hero 2 you have? If so, the burst mode is amazing. Takes 10 photos in a second. Also a lot of light helps the situation :)
Best way to learn is just to fool about. After all, it's all digital :)

I believe mine is a Hero 3, Silver Edition. I've tried test videos but they come out really slow and it stresses me out. Guess I gotta fuck around with it some more.

Yeah, the best thing I've found is Mic Bergsma on YouTube. Dude is a gopro guru. The Hero 3 is a pretty beast :P
