my forest has only been cut down once.....and will never be cut because it itched like hell when the trees grew back

Shave the direction of the trees, not against them. Doesn't leave things perfectly smooth, but makes it not itch! And then after a week or two, it's all fuzzy like a short grassy field, instead of a tangled up jungle.
