Another Simon Barber commish from my Spontoon Island assortment. For new year's, the natives burn effigies of the things that have plagued them the previous year. A fun idea...I should see if I can introduce it to Iceland's new-year bonfire tradition.

You know this reminds me of something funny about some of the religious factions that does book burning where they burn books, cds, dvds and other things that offends their religion to protest these things and I even asked some of these churches this... all this stuff that they burn where do they get it? Well a lot told me that they buy it from the store to donate it to the event because they support the protest... Ok, I said, So you buy all this stuff that you don't like to burn it to promote others not to buy it? So that means the artists and publishers are still making a profit for making what you believe is crap and giving them free advertising so they can go out and make more for you to burn and them make even more money.... Who here sees the logic in that?
In the Pacific Islands around Fiji I think, it's popular to burn paper effigies of the riches and prized posessions of a person who has recently died. Some of the islanders go all out, building fairly accurate half sized models of Luxury cars, houses, even small ships and airplanes. A lot of work goes into something that only exists to be destroyed it seems, but from what I understand, the more expense the family puts into getting the props made, shows how much the departed was loved. Personally, I like the idea of burning my troubles too.
