We have been invaded.
6 Road Island Red Hens have invaded my back yard
Its funny they even laid an egg in the car on the way home
We are, on the advice of the provider, going to be confining the girls to there coop for the next 3-4 days. This is so they imprint on the coop, and roosts, so we don't get them laying eggs randomly through the yard, and trying to roost in the trees.
So far the girls don't have names, we have one scardy hen who hides in the coop when we come out and five friendly docile girls.
They seem to like the Coop,
Ej our goober dog seems to really wanna see them, every time he goes out to use the rest room he first runs over to the coop to see how they are doing

And the Kitty Salem thinks they are horrible murder burds

they seem to be good tempered girls and after 3 days they seem to be getting used to us. they arn't as quick to bolt for the coop when we come out. Last night they liked my left over beef stew, mostly squabbling over the meat but one would dart in a make off with big chunks of potato. and this morning mom was bringing them out a half a sandwich the step dad left be find. and soon as she took it out of the wrapper one of the girls was at her feet.
My sis thought we shouldn't feed them meat but they eat bugs worms, snails, frogs and mice if they can catch them so some ham and beef are good for them. in fact most of the back yard chicken forums I go to suggest feeding them chicken scraps and scrambling the older eggs for them if they produce to many...
still no more3 eggs from the girls but they are still settling in

We feed ours meat quite often because we don't feed commercial protein plus chook pellets and I only have a small yard for them to forage in. They need protein and calcium the most to help keep their feathers good and produce eggs. For calcium their grain is mixed with medium and fine shell grit. You can bake eggshells but you must crush them up fine so they don't get the idea to eat their own eggs. They get roo meat, cat food leftovers, dog food left overs, bits of deli meats, all sorts. The only meat they don't get is chicken on the moral principal that we don't want them to be cannibalistic, not that they would care. On top of that we buy home bred crickets which is fun to watch them chase when we put out about 50 at a time. Even the little chicks have fun chasing and catching crickets. We include the occasional meal worms in their diet as well as earth worms, slater bugs, slugs and snails from other parts of the garden. What you want to watch out for is meat that has gone totally bad as the bacteria may not harm the hen but can get into the eggs. I have spoiled chickens they also get heaps of veg scraps, grass, herbs and bits and pieces. They are so much fun. I hope yours give you much joy. *hugs*
