this is either the happiest sad picture or saddest happy picture I've ever done.
Adhar (male, golden fur, left) and Nehalla** (female, dark fur, right). They're sharing clothes, Nehalla found herself without any so she's borrowing his shirt so she can be decent. He kept his pants.
Adhar is the son of Nehalla's best friend. The other thing they have in common is they were the most important people to Zibri (Nehalla was Zibri's mother, Adhar was like a brother to him).
The other thing in common is that they both -died- in Zibri's backstory...
(but this is a scene from a future story, one I won't get to for a long time... so I won't tell exactly what's going on, just that these "ghosts" are keeping eachother company)
**Yes, she's meant to be that thin... not starved, but she has a metabolism problem, she couldn't gain weight if she wanted to (I've had friends with this problem).
I wanted to add more to the picture... a kettle or a pot, a second tin cup... but I didn't want to clutter it too much.

My sisters gymnastic coach, back in high school, had that same "metabolism" problem, though perhaps a bit milder. All I know is we went out to eat once at some sit-down restaurant... and the guy not only consumed his whole meal, but also finished at least one other person's!
O.o;; It was a little weird to see a man with such a great physique eat like someone with twice his waist size.

I think that this might be along the lines of happy mind you.
I say this due to the smile that Nehalla happens to have here. After all, in the after life, I believe it'd be hard to smile. Second of all, sharing shirts like that shows compassion and good will to me. I know they both died in the backstory as you said, but it's pictures like this which are happy because it shows that even in death they can still be content.
This being shown by the rays of light piercing the clouds in the background that I'll bet no one will really catch. That's the idea of well... lets call it the proverbial silver lining and all that. That even in dark times, there's still those sunny moments.
The coloration here is what gives definition to this picture. I say that as it's thick and very dark [As shown by Nehalla's fur and the luster that.. well... ISN'T on Adhar's golden fur due to lack of light.] It looks like it's supposed to be dark and oppressive to some degree, but the idea that they can sit down and have coffee together makes them seem human. And I happen to think the way you're able to catch the element of humanity like that in your works a very admirable thing.
And that's what makes me enjoy this piece~
