From the pen of Jonas http://www.furaffinity.net/user/jonas/ comes a late night doodle stream rendering of Abel as a Chibi Sith Lord.
I checked wookipedia for lightsaber colors and no one yet has an Octarine-colored lightsaber blade. So, I decided that Abel deserved one.
Granted the color of Octarine is best described by Terry Pratchett as a "Greenish-Yellow Purple" I had to settle for the Greenish-yellow blade with a Purple core... (which ALSO has yet to be done by anyone else.)

I checked that one up on Wookiepedia and found out that while they normally do, the reason for that is that they tend to use artificial crystals because they lack the flaws of natural crystals.
Still, there is a LOT of crystal-types that had been used in the creation of lightsabers with a LOT of variations from white to a one of a kind black lightsaber.

I suppose that's true.
And of course, there is the whole movies vs EU convention...
In the movies, Jedi all use blue or green blades, Sith always use red.
But that got screwed up when Sam Jackson insisted that he be allowed to have a purple lightsaber as a condition for playing Mace Windu.
In the books, EU/books, blade colors were all over the place. I can't recall if the colors were random or as a result of the kind of crystal used. I DO recall that in the book where Luke set about building his relacement lightsable that was set between Empire and Jedi, the book specifically mentioned how he cooked up an atrifical crystal becuase he didn't have the time or the money to go looking for a natural one.
And there was at least one Jedi in the EU whose blade was red, but I can't remember who it was. But there as no connotations attached to the blade's color in the story.
And then in the series where Jacen fell to the Dark Side and became a Sith Lord, he specifically made a new lightsaber that would have a proper red Sith blade.
So, take your pick, the rules were never clearly defined. :)
And BTW, after the above mentioned series, I stopped reading the EU. It was no longer a nice place to visit.
It seems promising to me that epsiodes 7, 8 and 9 are gonna igore the EU. Once upon a time, that would have angered me. But now, I think it's a good thing. Maybe the best way to do it would be to retain everything up until The New Jedi Order, and then jetison it and what came after cuz that's when the EU started to go off the rails.
IMO.
