I guess the coloring is as good as it gets for me. It also would be nice to make Scale look, well, scaly, but the only way I know to do so (with a Photoshop filter) makes the character look flat. :/
I'll replace this submission with the finished one when done, and will make a note in my FA journal when I do so.
I'm gonna revisit this guy some day... being thinking of doing one of him brandishing that sword of his, and I don't mean the metal one.
Again, background rendered with Poser.

Offscreen, in the general direction of the viewer, is a small tornado which Scale fearlessly confronts. Scale steadily holds his ground and lets the tiny twister blow that loincloth, several microns thin and dwarfed in thickness by a Hefty trash bag liner, up against his weiner and 'nads.
Either that, or Scale's nuts have been encased in carbonite.
In any event, the viewers certainly don't mind :)

Looks pretty good so far, 'though I agree, the scabbard color-scheme is a little hard to do. Other than that, looks pretty amazing.
Hmm... As for the scale-pattern... couldn't you do the 'flat' fill, then just add hilights and shading from that?
I dunno, don't use Photoshop.
...call it a personal quirk, but I like the naughty bits internal :P just me I guess.

IF I may comment, I was saying, hmm, those colors don't quite work with the scabbard and armour and such, and I couldn't help but think, Hmmm, maybe he should do some studying of ambient lighting and metal as well as with the background. It'd work more if you associated it with a brighter background, imo.
Secondly, I disaproove of your armour style along the dino for many reasons (mostly for my study on such things so I'm picky ;p ) And would gladly suggest some ideas of functionality and such (most important would be your stlyle which I would ask not to change :) but a few helpful ideas might work, if you wanna talk sometime)
Thirdly, I've always enjoyed your work, but viewing this, makes me think your slipping, I see several mistakes that I would not normally see with your completed color pictures, from the handle of the sword, to the intense glowing effects which in your stlyle is normally grand, doesn't work with the colors you want.
Now that I'm done picking apart your picture ^_^ don't hate me ^_^;; I would like to say a few further things of what I like and have to delight in. Your scale of leg vs height seems to be spot on, sometimes with your many forms, they just don't look right imo, too muscular, or short/squat for the torso design. Might I suggest that you try blending a little more animalian trait rather then full blown human qualities.
Another good suggestion is with your 'flat' look. try less of a straight angle l ike that, try of a more 'dramatic' angled look, like turning the charecter about 30-45 degrees clockwise, same po se and everything but it may eliminate the flattened look as your shading is rather good.
And lastly, the big compliments :) I do very much enjoy the leather, the clasps, and the accents of 'buldge ;) ' and gems. It brings out the charecter so much more. but what I would like to suggest are designing more commoners and developing the techniques and various esthetic qualities of how one wears and uses what one needs. does one dress more elaboratly with position other then those murralicious generals and buff lizards you love to make. How about trying to design a porter, (muscular guy who's main function is to be strong, carry, move, and the like) Commoners don't have to be frail ^_^ But overall, big marks on your work and I enjoy it throughoully....damn i wrote alot, inspired to do so as you complained about your picture yourself, I would have left you alone if you had said, "Here be my lizard, Love him! or something generic!" heh.. Do take care and be well.
Tch..with such a development of weapondry, you'd think they'd have developed some decent armour, what is he, a scout or skirmisher? aw well...

Don't be afraid about me hating some constructive criticism; Sobek knows I need a heck of a lot more than what I get.
Some of the mistakes and the sense that I may be "slipping" is in part caused by me not having as much motivation lately than I had a few years ago. Work and my life in general play a big part on that. As for the coloring, I've been disappointed for what I feel is having reached the limit of what my self-taught skills can produce. I really wish I could have a live person sit down next to me and teach me how to get better. The obvious choice, paid schooling, is a few tens of thousands of dollars out of my reach, so I have to go with what I know.
I wasn't going for the armor being functional -- the picture meant more to be erotic than realistic. Plus, it is my interpretation of another person's character. And I wanted to follow somewhat in the theme of my "Dinoswords" characters, which are very buff and so skilled in their weapons that they even dare wear very little armor. And with this guy's large sword's reach (the metal one), I don't think an opponent would manage to get real close. And I guess I need not talk about their sexual prowess -- they want to intimidate as much as they want to elicit lust.

have you condicered talking to some people, other skilled artist furs online? get some OC sessions going? I bet several artists would be tickled pink to give you a hand or just have some fun with various different styles of color and whatever else you wish to experiment and learn.
I figured out the last paragraph, but I wanted to add in my comments anywhey, and was glad you wrote back ^_^ and I can't wait to see if any opponent *chuckles* kneels in defeat.

Normally I’m not such a fan of lizards and dinosaurs, but there are a few (very few) who draw them in such a spellbinding, appealing way that really compels me to try my hand at it. The style of the character as well as his nonpareil attire is amazingly executed, along with the (final?) coloring work that’s nearly perfect. The anatomy is great as well, and you incorporated dinosaur’s features into a more anthro like body really well to, again that’s not something I see a lot of! All around great work.
I did a Google search and found it right away, thanks!
As an additional comment - damn your musculature looks good. As Ayrlah mentioned above, sometimes the proportion of leg to chest make your characters look a little 'top-heavy', but this guy seems about right.
I'm not really one to be giving critiques however. So I'll go back to waiting with expectation for your next.
