One of my current trio has gone broody again this year, but never fails to dash out of the nest box at the sign there's some grain being thrown.

This one is pretty finicky when she's brooding... she eats a few pecks worth, turns her beak up, and then ten minutes later wants more (which she also turns her beak up at). She's haughty.

Fortunately there aren't any ticks that I've ever seen (though there are plenty up in the nearby foothills). What she really seems to go crazy for are pillbugs and earwigs. :P

I have some hens that recognize me only at a certain time, and that time is feeding time.

This one is pretty sociable. She almost always comes running whenever anybody goes out into the yard. She likes to follow you around, kind of like a puppy. Apparently its common to buff Orpingtons, which is her breed.

Chickens are smarter than pigeons and that's good enough for me.

They also have a lot more personality and that goes a long way.

Thanks! It took a little patience. Also, it helps that she was just out of her coop and still taking in the whole "morning" thing.

Well, thank you. :3 I have to admit I never thought about chickens much until we got one. I've come to appreciate that they actually have quite a lot of personality (plus they look pretty cool up close).
