As the dog sniffs at the bag of food that was set aside, impatiently waiting for its meal, Brian throws his tattered clothing and shoes off to the side, when his boss sees him.
Fortunately for Brian, he ALWAYS tells the truth on his job applications.

well my advice to him is when he gets home, sit down and just meditate. let everything else go, than focus on changing forms, while still keep in that calm state of mind, and than do it in reverse. i mean it would show he really "gets into his work" if he could change when he wanted too.
A bit. just a piece of advice for him about clothing, buy clothing at least one or two sizes bigger than your are in human form, or you could tempt trying them on in store, make sure there are private dressing rooms.
with this technique you can choose what is actually visible, bit and other things. and if he can figure out how to just make his tail and ears show, that will prevent him from changing when he doesn't want to, usually

For me, there are two kinds of lycanthropes. Those that can control their transformation, and those that can't. Usually, they're quite exclusive to each other, but there is some amount of blurring that can occur. Like, what you suggest, that one can eventually learn to control the transformation if you originally could not. I have my own theory, but there's lots of ways it can be interpreted. On top of that, do you still retain your mind when you transform? Again, this can vary. Some even vary if it's either a form of anthro or if it is feral.
