Free Sketch Friday: Cool Guys have Chill Day (feat. Maxwell)
IT'S COOL GUY(s)! -drops cup, chillocity ensues-
Totally chill and unbelievably pro request by
pawn, I didn't think so much cool could fit on one page! His character Charlie, and my characters Émile and Artemecion all chillin' BD It felt kinda sad, drawing Artemecion without Maxwell in the other request he poked his tentacle-y head in on this round... I guess they're just that close, in my head! He just had to get drawn too. 8< (damn that's cute, if not slightly clingy)
Thank you so much for giving me a chance to draw Charlie, because he is way more chill than Charley! >:T Pawn, ur da coolest guy I know o/
(I thought Émile would look weird in modern clothes, but he surprisingly doesn't... At least not to me)

This is pretty much the only thing that comes to mind when looking at this picture. That and the fact everything looks boss as fuck \o
I can't make out what's on Charlie's magazine tho. I see a charmander and "Poke" (fancy accented e), "Pokemon butt dreams", and possibly "Sutbk" on the cover? But I can't tell what's in front of the charmander or which pokemon that is on the back. Life is filled with mysteries

That is appropriate for all things involving Charlie BD (Thank you -rolls around in bed and makes braying noises o/ )
It says -adjusts glasses- "Poké" (as you noted) and "Cute!" on the front cover, with a picture of charmander, bulbasaur, and Squirtle, though Charlie's claws are blocking the squirtle out because they're EVIL. >:O The back has an ad of an anthro pumpkaboo girl with fancy jeans on, and it says "PUNKIN BUTT JEANS" as a parody of Applebottom jeans ha; It also has a barcode shaped like a pikachu head and tail. B3

Sometimes, even Pawn's characters have to put on pants -puts hand over heart- ;^;
If you like Émile, you might also like his dick BD
I should definitely make a feature on my page called "DICKS RECOMMENDED FOR YOU," à la youtube

I am at the point now that I am starting to recognize characters more and more. It's still far from perfect, but I am a bit proud there's finally some recognition.
Wow, so much detail here. That's what I admire, you know? I've tried drawing super detailed things from time to time, and I just notice the quality suffers from it. But with you, that's not the case at all!
Does a detailed drawing like this take considerably more time to draw?
Do you think Fire Pokémon often accidentally set things on fire?

I'm proud of you too! There's a lot of these fuckers to remember, but I'm really glad you're starting to recognize them more and more c:
Blublublublublub, thank youuuu! I am not quite sure how to respond to such praise... Thank you! Sometimes the quality suffers for me as well, but usually only when I have to replicate a very detailed character! That's why I tend to have an overall (comparatively) basic character body, with different costumes and outfits they wear! Then, I can change the clothing to suit what I feel like drawing: detailed, or simple c:
And... Well, yes and no! The basic drawing process doesn't seem to take as long (since a lot of the small things like writing on the cups, or condensation are pretty quick and easy), but the planning does take a bit longer! Though, nothing seems to take as long as the outlining in a darker pencil... It can be tiring, tracing over the lighter lines! It's like drawing the same picture twice...
You know, this is something that I've been struggling with for some time! With pokemon like emboar and ponyta, I imagine the flames to be more like specialized hairs that only look like flames... This makes things a lot simpler in Perciverse! But with reptiles like charmeleon, I'm a bit stumped! It seems inconvenient, having a lit fire on the end of your tail all the time... Especially since there's that whole "it'll die if it goes out" thing! what if a charmeleon wants to go swimming? Gah!

I see. I'm amazed that you don't even take that much longer to draw this. Give yourself a pat on the back from me, as I am physically unable to do so.
Actually, is it difficult to get rid of the sketchlines when you've drawn the thicker pencil lines? Aren't you afraid you'll erase everything accidentally?
Oh, right. I remember you telling me this about Ponytas.
Also, I think there's a bit of the misinterpretation for the "he dies if the fire goes out" thing. It's not that he dies when the fire goes out, but rather that the fire is an indication for how alive he is. And thus, when the fire is out, he is dead.
Charizard has been doused in water, and has even been underwater often enough that it appears that he can withstand it. (Of course it's not really enjoyable for him, though.)
So that time when Ash and co found the Charmander, they weren't so much trying to protect the flame, but they were more trying to keep the Charmander as warm as possible so he wouldn't die from hypothermia. The flame just indicated how close he was to dying already.
That's how I interpreted it anyhow.

Well thanks! -patpatpatpat-
What I tend to do with these requests is draw it first with a pencil that has 4H lead (harder lead that comes out lighter), and then go over it with an HB pencil! For the darker parts, I use a 2B pencil, though I left this one without that kind of shading because I thought it looked better this way. I don't erase any lines when I do the free requests, because it'd be too hard to erase them without taking out the main lines also! Though, I do erase on my sketch commissions... And I am afraid of it happening there! Though, it's usually not too bad to simply re-add them
That does make more sense with how the pokedex says it actually! I just haven't seen much of the anime, though I did see the episode they were lost in the snow. Long time ago, though! But that still leaves the problem of "how do they avoid burning everything?" I think that Zel said the anime goes for a "the flame isn't hot unless it wants it to be," but that doesn't really make sense, in my mind. ... Maybe this is why I don't have any charmander/charmeleon/charizard characters yet, hahaha!

The anime seems to sort of handle it that way. You may already know this one, because I think I recall you talking about it before...
But with Ponyta, the flames don't burn the rider when the Ponyta trusts the rider completely. It could be something similar with Charmeleons, they only burn when they want it to.
...Which is, I guess, the same explanation as what Zel gave.
I'll give this some thought, see if I come up with anything!
