First of all, you got the definition of 'loanword' wrong. And, Second of all, if you played DmC: Devil May Cry and watched the scene where Mundus is demanding Vergil to have an exchange: Kat's life for Dante's, he clearly refers to Dante as 'the Nephilim'

"A loanword (or loan word or loan-word) is a word borrowed from a donor language and incorporated into a recipient language directly, without translation"

"Nephilim" is a Hebrew plural word for the children of the "sons of God" and the "daughters of men". It was adopted into the English language, as was seraph and seraphim, cherub and cherubim. People just failed to notice the inherent plurality of the statement when nephilim was adopted.

no, because there are words in the English Dictionary that are both singular and plural for a reason, it's like saying the plural version of deer is 'deers' (which it isn't)

I'm saying we could just as easily adopt the singular form of the word into English without much confusion.

The idea of applying that quirk of English grammar to a foreign word when we've avoided it twice before is...actually quite an English thing to do. lol

now that last part that you said, I can agree with you, our ability to create an English word from a word that belongs to a different language through that kind of technique is sort of like a compulsion

Sometimes. It's more like the offspring of an angel (usually a fallen one) and a human. In other stories, it has been shown as an Angel/Demon hybrid. I think the giant portrayal was from the bible, in the sense that David fought Goliath, a Nephilim.

I think that's the reason why Diablo III called the Angel/Demon hybrids 'Nephalem' as a way not to get the two confused

The backgrounds... The props... The main characters... The expressions... The body language of each of them... The focus...
Everything about this comic is absolutely stunning and it's got me on the edge of my seat and drooling for more.

Ooh! Nephilim are so cool. Technically speaking (I think) Nephilim are the off-spring of one of the Fallen (the angels that sided with Lucifer). If a nephilim appears in this comic, who will it's angelic parent be? Anyone we know from "Paradise Lost"?
