Renguy of Luna in full armor. He specifically wanted armor more in line with what a real horse would wear, so she has iron armor and chainmail with decorative tapestries over her neck and flank showing her mark.

My younger sister wasn't born yet when G2 ended, so we just never had a reason for ponies in the house until G3. From that perspective, making them look less like horses is an improvement There's all sorts of childhood things that are worse than you remember... I saw the Richard Rich "The King and I" in theatres, and enjoyed it, and I'm not ashamed of it, I was fucking 10! I had no taste.
But I do love the designs for the earlier shows in theory, where the horses looked like horses instead of equnculi... (would that be the word? Eqquiunculi?)
Those giant slats on their necks... god, if I was a horse I'd feel like a steed of Helios decked in a suit of that (squees)
