Sooooooooooooo I had been calling them hell hounds, and then Kati said, "OH, you finished your shadow hounds did you?"

And now they have a new name.

In a world I haven't really developed much. Nana has two little hounds. They kind of let Her into their own little pack.
They can talk, but it's more a telepathic thing between them. And they can project their thoughts to some people. But mostly keep to themselves.
They are very rare to find, and do not really socialize with others outside of their race. And can often be found like mated pairs.

They have the ability of melting back into the shadows where they came from. Between one step and the next they can do this, being a shadow and being real. It does expend more energy for them to be physical in the day. Dusk and Dawn being their happy hour. And those black specks in their tails are shadows flying off of them. They cannot change their size in either world.

When they have exhausted their power in the physical world, they disappear into the shadows until they are strong again. They are a pretty long lived race. They do not have large litters, and a few years can pass between cycles. Pups are rarely ever seen in the physical world, taking them quite the time to be able to project and materialize themselves in it. But a rare pup is born from time to time, that is a prodigy. Poor parents too.

Their eyes are as varied as the colors of the rainbow as are their markings.

Females are regularly a little smaller than their male counterparts, and their faces resemble more a hyenas than a hound. And the males have a more squarish face.

These two in particular are Lys and Ivys. They are a mated pair. But do not have a litter of their own, Or at least they have not seen fit to share its existence with Nana. They are around 40 years old little pups~~~~
