Just something I am working on, got a bunch of files from an auction not too long ago and thought I would try my hand at making a knife from them. This is the first, an older Nicholson file wish some chips in the teeth (and I have a drawer full of perfect condition Nicholson files already). So I got my grinder and sander set up dusted off the stones and got to work. It has a little bit left to do yet, the handle needs to be pinned and finished, the edge needs to be completely finished and I may blue the blade to give it a nice two tone look.
I will be giving it a lanyard hole and 2 or three pins, I have ordered some mosaic pins to put into this, and I think they will look awesome. I think I will be doing a lot more of these in future. Will be easier now that I have the proper tools which I bought as I needed them. new grinder, belts for my sander, a proper sized bucket for dunking in. I still need to get a decent set of stones but I don;t have that sort of money right now.
No name as of yet but I don;t believe in naming things until you have completed them. (kings wood for the handle by the way)

grinder with an adjustable guide, belt sander with a guide, stones (guarden stone mostly from home depot, which I scored and broke in half), a bucket of water to keep the piece cool and a lot of time. I can do a real play by play if you like. Message me or even better commission me ;)
just shaped it while keeping the temper, older files are usually made of w1 or w2 both of which are a real pain to heat treat, the rumor I have heard is that they are a hair softer inside so that if you take the edge inside the surface a little you can get away with not (soft enough to put an edge on that will hold)
