Inking step to hot springs picture. Not usually a lot to say about this step besides when I plan on doing a color-centric piece I usually try to leave as few solid black areas as possible; if they need to end up being black I can color them black during the actual color stage. Still, it helps to give as much definition as I can during the ink stage so that it can look good on its own.

Neither! The sketch was done on 9 x 12 sketchbook paper and the ink was done on 11 x 14 bristol. What I do is that I scan it, change all the lines to bright blue at ~20-40 percent opacity and print it out onto the bristol board so I can ink it there. I'll be printing it out again onto a new sheet of bristol for marker coloring (and also a couple very small versions of the picture onto some cardstock for doing thumbnail tests
It does make it a bit easier! I decided to go with this process when I was doing marker because 1) I can't sketch as well at much larger than 9 x 12 and 2) I hate having to start ALL over due to some mistakes, plus this way I can do line correction in the ink stage that won't carry over to the color stage.
