Temperature isn't the issue so much as the smell of 15 or more bodies in such a tight space. The air cycles through enough to be safe, but not enough to keep it "fresh". Similarly, humidity can also be a problem - if it gets cool, condensation can be a problem as well as things getting clammy, or if it warms up, it can go from merely stuffy to sweltering all too easily, as well as aggravating any smell issues.
Good engineering is all part of creating a thorough background for the story. In this case, while I've been noodling on the story and the hardware for a couple years now, the bunkhouse only came up last week as I was hashing out some of the story and realized that extended time at high altitude would mean the crew would need supplemental oxygen. Bottled oxygen costs in weight and there can be only so much carried. Further, crew needed down time and sleep, and masks would not be practical. So came the idea of the pressurized compartment. It didn't need oxygen, just compressed air, easily supplied from engine-driven compressors, and would likely weigh less and be much more comfortable than living in masks and the extra several hundred man-hours of bottled oxygen.
