This is the Gateway of Winter Haven (http://www.winterhavenlarp.com). It is a device that connects other similar magical gates together throughout other worlds and the same world. It's NOT a Stargate... no matter how similar it may appear. ^.^

There is a large tree at the location of the Winter Haven LARP that looks similar to this... but instead of a giant circle in the middle, there's sort of another stalk growing up. It's pretty weird. Anyways, I figured I would start off drawing the environment of Winter Haven with what most folks see for the first time... the Portal.

This was drawn in pencil, scanned and colored in Photoshop with similar techniques to how I drew the map.

I'm experimenting with Alpha channels and .PNG formats. So far I'm unimpressed with .PNG for general artwork, but if you're gonna do drop-shaddows or transparencies in general, it seems to be the way to go. I just wish you had more options.. and smaller file sizes. *sighs*
